On A Budget And Need A New Domain? Try $3.95 Per Domain!

Hi! I stumbled onto this in Google while looking for something else. But right now Register.com is offering a discounted domain registration price of only $3.95.

There's a catch. Limit 3, and for new customers only.

The offer says "Use invitation code Reg395ab at check out to receive new .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .us domains for only $3.95 when you register for a one year term."

I'm not affiliated with them in any way and just thought I'd share this so others could be sure to take advantage of it.

I've never even used them before, so we will see how this one goes and whether I made a mistake or not, ha!

But have at it, boys and girls!

Thanks for the heads up. This is certainly going to save few bucks.

I saw that, too. I rarely use private registration since I register in a company name most of the time. And there are some times when you actually WANT someone to see your registration details.

But considering that this company's "regular" price is $20 per name, I thought it was a good deal. Guess they figure, they've got to get you up in price somehow. Good old marketing funnel in action, I guess.

I use Domain Cheapsters. I get my domain and private registration for about $11 a year.
Did you know that the company who owns them also owns GoDaddy?
Why can't we just buy domains from the people who sell them to registrars?

That used to be how it worked, but a long time ago it was mandated that the "monopoly" be broken. Network Solutions was the registry and the sole registrar basically. Bear in mind though that domains cost $70 over 2 years in those days.

Just think about how many newbies would be left out if you still had to pay 70 bucks for a domain today...

If you are into flipping domains it cannot hurt to keep your costs down. The return on investment of $3.95 is over twice that of $10 when buying the same thing. If you sold the domain for $100, you get 10x your money on ten dollars. But the same domain price on less than four dollars comes out to over 25x the money!

Who wouldn't want to make 25x the money where they can just by shopping someplace different this week?

So far I have not heard anything bad about Register.com like I have GoDaddy. But we will see . . .

It certainly sounds interesting, but I find it odd that I can't see their actual price list for domains on their site - perhaps I need to make an account first, but that seems a bit odd.

I'm curious what the renewal cost will be (which is why I wanted to see the price sheet)? Has anyone dealt with this company before, and if so what was your experience like? If I buy a few domains and change the nameservers do the changes propagate as quickly as NC or GD?

Anyone with any experience that can offer some input?

    Thanks

    Bill

A lot of what Wikipedia says about Register.com is mainly on the dot:

Register.com - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Their prices have been consistently $35 a year. Its owner, Web.com, is set to
      acquire fellow registrar Network Solutions.

Make sure you turn off auto-renew on the domains (sometimes they get sneaky and charge your CC 60 days before expiry), and transfer them out to a cheaper registrar before they expire if you don't want to pay regular prices ($20/yr) at Register.com.

Haven't used register yet myself either but interested to see if what others have to say that have used it.

I generally stick with namecheap and watch for their sales, they come up often and you can snatch up a bunch at great rates when a good sale hits.

Believe it or not, I too usually stick with Namecheap and/or Enom, depending on the deal! (Namecheap used to be an Enom reseller.) But I've never come across a deal like this from Register.com before, hence the sharing. They also run BetterWhois.com, which I have used often.

One registrar I tried that had better pricing that I later came to regret was 1and1.com. The pricing I got in at was NOT worth the headache I had later. Sign up for a domain, and then it's due a year later and your credit card has expired? (They assume you WANT to renew, even if you don't, and automatically hit your card like clockwork.) They don't just lock the one domain, they lock access to the ENTIRE ACCOUNT, including the domains that are not due for MONTHS!!! And transfers from one person to another EVEN WITHIN THEIR SYSTEM where the new person keeps the domain with them were PAINFUL BEYOND BELIEF compared to any other registrar I had ever dealt with. And then, to make matters even worse, even AFTER I left them by finally transferring all the domains I had to a new registrar, they continued to attempt to bill me FOR DOMAINS NO LONGER REGISTERED with them, constantly sending me reminders to renew with them even after domains had been moved away months earlier.

Like I said, PAINFUL (and confusing!) BEYOND BELIEF.
