Cookies And GoDaddy/Amazon

So........ I've found a product that I want to buy on GoDaddy/Amazon.

Naturally I want a discount!

So I then open a new browser tab to find a discount code........
The operator of the discount code site has a button saying 'click here' - which opens a new window at the Godaddy home page

This fires an affiliate cookie etc etc

However, I'm already in the shopping basket so for whatever reason I close that browser window and decide to purchase anyway

Does the affiliate pick up a commission for that purchase?

This is confusing me so any assistance gratefully received!

Edit - Interested to see if the affiliate gets paid - looking at affil sites at the mo....

I am not sure about godaddy but Amazon has a 24 hours cookie expiration date and usually most companies have at least 24 hours cookies.

You don't want the affiliate to get the commission? lol

I answered in the same way, but what I "think" he means is since he's already in the shopping cart and about to purchase he goes to another page to get a discount code and click on affiliate link and put a affiliate cookie on his browser.. but he's already in the shopping cart from earlier when he didn't have the cookie on his browser and about to purchase so the cookie doesn't register since he was already through the purchasing process:confused:

Yep, thats what I mean - if I had an affiliate site and the above happened then would i get paid in this instance...........

I think it's something you could experiment for yourself to find out. I believe if your in the shopping cart and you've got the cookie from the other window and you press checkout the cookie will count, but if your already in the checkout process it will not

Even if you have your item in the cart, when you open another window that puts a cookie for the site you are on, the original cookie gets overwritten.

In your case the godaddy link gets the commission.

The last cookie inserted gets the commission.

It will be interesting to know what way this goes once the EU cookie law is fully implemented...
