How to monotize 7 million visitors?

I've got a client with a site pulling 7 million visitors a year. Most of them first time.

He's making close to 10k with Adsense but we are thinking there may be other ways to pull a lot more from the traffic.

Some details:

700k are moms looking to book birthday parties.

We've watched the Adsense trends and birthday party venues are the largest percentage of advertisers

Another segment are coupon offers

There is a strong gamers presence

And a strong careers/jobs presence

Driving the traffic straight to high gravity click bank products did shockingly bad.

The thought now is to create a few pre sell blogs to create a connection, build a list and then make immediate and long term sales.

Any experienced warriors have thoughts on how to kick revenue up to at least 25k - 30k from this traffic?

Any opinions on courses I should be looking at for this type of situation?

    stuff them :-)
    kidding.
can you turn it into a membership site? get their details, make them come back and send eshots every week. or simply sell it to someone who can, before it gets frustrating.

What would you do if you had a store in which 7 million people walked in every year? Plaster a bunch of advertisements on the walls?

Hire (and train) some of the best salespeople ("closers") that you possibly can. Real people will sell better for you than Clickbank salespages.

...And yes, either create a community, or build an email list, or both.

7 million visitors should make him at least 100k man.

Try to sell your own related products..

What if you set up a lead generation service? Contact magicians, bands, jugglers and any other type of entertainment. Work out a deal with them that you will give them lead for a certain price. I think you could really have some good earning potential with this.

      Thanks for the ideas guys.

For those of you wanting to know the site, obviously I can't say. Sorry, I'd love to send you all out there helping me come up with ideas!

I'm a Newb in this space -- besides the lower/zero price entry, what's difference between a CPA and something like a ClickBank offer?

We had been thinking of seeing what worked with ads/opt-in first marketing other products, then as we learn what the fish are biting on, developing our own offers.

Anyone happen to know a way to run numbers and figure out potential revenue before jumping in with both feet and building out some of the pre-sell page funnels? Any rules of thumb? Or is this one of those "just start testing stuff" situations?

        1. CPA offers pay per action. The action may be a zip code submit, email submit, phone number submit, trial offer registration, or a purchase.

CPA offers are presented more by Corporate America than small business owners, and Corporate America does not present products in ClickBank to my knowledge.

        2. Outside the IM-niche, a lot of ClickBank offers are duds -- to be avoided.

        3. Poll your users, and ask THEM what they think? Ask them what they want from the site, and how you can improve things. That will be more valuable to you than anything you will read in this thread.

        4. If you start mailing your membership, the average list should turn $1/per subscriber per month. This is not a hard number, but an average number.

It can go much higher and much lower, depending on the quality of the mailing list and person doing the mailing.

        5. I would seek to carefully place some CPA offers.

I would also take notice of which advertisers keep coming back to advertise, and see if there is anything you can create or offer in that vertical.

I would do a real newsletter with the website, and send 2-3 issues per week, with best-of-the-best content, aimed at the wants and needs of your membership.

I would sell advertising in that newsletter, and use it to talk directly to your membership-base to find out what motivates them to spend money and take action.

I would try to create information products in-house that directly appeal to the audience, and sell them on the site and in the newsletter for a few dollars each -- depending on the spending budgets of the membership.

In my mind, there is probably a lot more that can be done here, but the big picture is that you will never know what to do, until you better understand your audience.

          Bill,

Thanks for some great ideas. Had not even considered selling advertising in the email once we get them on a list -- Thanks. '

I'd definitely be offering something enticing (free ebook/discount coupons) to get people onto a mailing list. That way you can offer content but offers a few times a week. You'd have companies falling over themselves to work with anyone that had over 500,000 email list (as I believe you should aim for as a minimum).

      Ha, Kevin,

Don't think you want his system. Started with $350,000 to build it.

It was a passion of his. He built with one business model in mind. But that ended up being a surprise dead-end. It hasn't paid the way he thought it would - now we're looking for another path forward from the traffic, not the content providers.

Yea Kevin... If you have $350k laying around. PM me

We'll find a way to spend it productively.

On a serious note, its killing me see all that traffic and having some of the obvious moves not work on it. Something inside me tells me there is a massive gold mine there if I can find the right key to unlock it!
