Customer Support Looks Just Like The Warrior Forum Sometimes...

I have been batting back-and-forth with customer support at my web hosting company for the last 18 hours...

For those of you who are curious -- issue still unresolved.

The first guy that contacted me told me that what I was trying to do could not be done.

While waiting for his answer, I found "how" on my own... So, I got the opportunity to educate the customer support technician about what his employer's control panel could do... :p

"Yes you can, and here is how..."

His supervisor responded back that I had found the right answer and to let them know if there were any issues.

Although I found the how, and I put it together easily enough, the system is generating a weird error...

One tech asked me to send them the actual error... I did...

Then another tech picked up the conversation...

The next guy told me to go to such-and-such URL for guidance...

I laughed when I realized I was already looking at the page he recommended... I guess he knew how to use Google too...

I followed the tutorial to the letter, and the error kept happening...

That guy reminded me that they could not support my script -- only the tools in their system. I had to remind him that the purpose of the support request was an error in their system. LOL

The next guy up told me that I should send them a copy of the error message I was getting...

I had to remind them that I had done that already twice in the discussion, and that it might be helpful if he reads the entire thread before commenting...

I am still waiting on another response from support...

Now you can see why I compared tech support to the Warrior Forum, right?

lol ... you're right. It does sound like some of the WF conversations. I imagine it's frustrating that your problem isn't solved yet.

UPDATE: 21 hours after starting this process, the solution was found...

Not by tech support... I just told THEM what the fix was!!!

They gave up on it hours ago, and sent me 3 URL's that "might help"!!

      They were right.

The first one indicated the problem was likely a problem in Cpanel 11, and suggested switching to Cpanel 10...

The third link told me what to put into that field...

      Yipee!!

I so hate having to teach the techs at one of the largest web hosting companies on The Planet how to fix my problems for me...

I guess a normal customer would have given up when they did!! LOL

tpw I had similar problem. They just gave me the links that I would find by google too and spent about 6 hours solving the problem on my own. After that I just included the solution in the reply so that they could help others.

That might happen with customer support, but it's not frequent around here. I'm convinced that some people just read the topic title and then hit the reply button. sigh

How do you know he isn't talking about Hostgator right now?

Nah, I am with Site5, which is owned by The Planet.

It was an issue with an email forwarder doing a process called "Email to Pipe".

In essence, I wanted to set up an incoming email to go to software, so that I could extract the message and put it into a database on delivery.

This is a process similar to a help desk app, where the incoming email is put into a Help Desk app.

The actual problem with it was a bug in Cpanel 11. Switching to Cpanel 10 fixed it.

The problem was that when the email was Sent to the target email address, the software would process as expected, but the Mail Server would kick back a "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender" error unexpectedly.

Cpanel 11 is setting up the "Email to Pipe" process incorrectly.
