For link building through web directories, which is better - free or paid directories? Please suggest a few in either categories. I greatly appreciate any other insights into creating back links through directories.

    Web directories were used for link building in the past.

    There might be some niche directories that still make sense to get listed in but for the most part I would say that directories are a thing of the past.
