Hello everybody,
I'm very new to internet marketing and this is my first post in this great forum.
I'm in the most difficult part: "selecting a good niche".
Everybody advices to get into a niche which you are interested in, have passion for etc...
My biggest hoby is watching movies. I watch at least one every day.
Is it a good idea to choose "movies" as my niche and build a website around it or should I find another niche where people are desperately searching a solution for a problem?
Has any of you tried this nis niche? If so, what are your experiences?
How can I make money in this niche? adsense, clickbank, Amazon?
Is it possible to build a list with it?
Lastly, is it a competetive niche like weight loss or IM ?

Thanks for your insights...

You can make money in any niche if you work at it long and hard enough. The idea behind doing something you are passionate about is so that after 2 months of not making money, you have the passion to keep you motivated to continue. Because most will give up. So they fail.

I would suggest doing a movie site. Try to make it unique. write a post on every movie but pick a single aspect of every movie you watch to focus on. Something you see clearly and can talk about with conviction and passion.

Over time you will build a tribe that will follow, comment and share your site. This is a long and hard journey and 99% will give up and try weight loss. Big mistake. Not because weight loss isn't profitable, it is insanely so.

But because if you can't get something happening and stick to something you do have passion for, how will you ever do something you can care less about like weight loss where people really know their sh*% and can out post, inform and SEO you?

So right from the start, ask yourself if you have the stamina for this. Most don't and leave IM wounded and bitter. Get your first website up and going, then start asking more specific questions.

You won't know the right questions until you actually do something forst.

      Good luck!!!

I totally agree with you StreetBacon. Especially with this "This is a long and hard journey and 99% will give up and try weight loss"

Always go for the niche you are the most passionate about. If you don't do it, will never be able to do the hard work at the beginning.

It's true that the niche has to be profitable so you can't go into any niche and expect to make 10K/month. However, this is not your case. Movie niche is an excellent niche and if you just start to write reviews on the movies you watch every day, you have 30 reviews in a month and with a good SEO and some social network influence you should see some results soon. Not 10K/month, but results.

I just want to chime in on this one as well.. First welcome to the Forum!!

I just wanted to add to Samuel's comment.. As you can see some great information here on where to get started, however I am surprised to see no one really offered any suggestions on HOW you can make some money.

I also like (Tech19) comment as well anyway

Here is my take on a few of your questions.

"Is it a good idea to choose "movies" as my niche and build a website around it or should I find another niche where people are desperately searching a solution for a problem?"

This is a good question .. First of all I am a HUGH movie fan myself. Granted movies are only a dollar from my local (REDBOX) BUT.. I normally look at reviews before I rent movies. (hint: movie review blog) so you are solving my problem there. If I rent the movie and then decided I want to own it I go looking for the best price for it. I get some of my movies from Amazon. (hint: Amazon Affiliate) how you monetize each review page that's for you to test. IMO in regards to the movie niche you have a LOT of flexibly to offer unique products without "copyright issues". Example if you have a review page for "Fast Five" part of the Fast and Furious franchise you might want to create a unique T-shirt with a cool quote "I like my cars FAST!" and offer on that same page.. Better yet... Reverse it create a (T-shirt) site design shirt "QUOTE"S" around a movie and offer the movie as an UP-SELL. Whatever..

So to answer your next question "How can I make money in this niche? adsense, clickbank, Amazon?"

There is really no right way to make money as there are endless ways to monetize websites just as we talked about above.. I believe almost anyone would agree with me here.

Your next question: "Is it possible to build a list with it?"
Yes, you can build a list in ANY niche, however being we are talking about movies this might be a little challenging but not impossible. Once you have a good FREE offer then you can monetize your list with maybe a clickbank offerà FullMovies = $30 per sale.. The key here is building a relationship FIRST then offer a pitch. No matter what niche you do decide to go into focus LOTS of your energy around learning this skill.

Lastly your question was "is it a competitive niche like weight loss or IM ?" Umm.. I am NOT to sure on this one HOWEVER don't let competition discourage you.

I hope this post adds some additional value to this thread.

Last comment... Whatever you do decide to do seek out a step by step "system" for "Newbie's" that will teach you the basics.
          • Keyword research
          • Website building (On Page SEO)
          • Monetizing
          • Traffic (Off Page SEO)
          • Converting

Take your time to learn and apply the steps in whatever course you decide on. TRY and I do mean TRY to stick with 1 course before investing into another.. If you get sucked into the endless "Next Big Thing" you will lose your focus and will nose dive and crash (Sorry for the graphic scenario) LOL
          Good Luck!!

Welcome to the forum! I think you should start off in a small niche to a targeted group of people who need help with solving a problem. You'll more than likely have little-to-no competition, and with your website domain name matching your main keyword phrase... ranking high for this niche should be no problem. You'll just have to put about 30 minutes a day in marketing your site to have it start getting sales for you.

And if you don't have a product, start off with Clickbank.com. The vendors there have great sales letters, high quality products, and excellent conversion rates. Good luck and feel free to contact me if you need any help.

Definitely go with your second thought... "Or should I find another niche where people are desperately searching a solution for a problem?"

A lot of people make the mistake of telling this to people - find what you're passionate about and start creating a blog and products around it, but it's really the wrong approach, find what people want online - create a product on it and give it to them.

    Welcome to the forum.

You can create a movie review niche if you want to.
If you would like to drill down deeper, then create a action movie review niche, or romance movie review niche and so one.

You will have to invest a bit of money if you are starting. If not,
it will be hard for you if you insist of using blogspot.

Once you got past the most difficult part "Selecting a good niche"
then it is time to buy a domain, which only cost <$10
and hosting server <$15 /month, there are free hosting server too.

Then you can start to write reviews about movies that you had watched.
Register Google adsense. In case you had your adsense account ban,
you can always use Google adsense alternative like Adbrite, Bidvertiser, Chitika, etc.

You most probably won't be seeing any income in your adsense in the first month.
Just be patience and you will see your effort being paid off.

You will get an answer from every angle on any niche. Believe it or not, I believe that you've just answered the hardest part of marketing. What niche to market too? Well you've already stated that you watch movies and plenty of them.

I took the liberty to check out some search stats based on movie watching. Guess what? There's a ton of people interested in this niche. Take a look

      watch movies online 2.7M searches
      watch movies free 2.2M searches

There is a lot of more keywords that people are searching on and you can find them by going to the google keyword search tool and just put in a keyword such as "movies" and you'll see what I mean.

How to monetize a website on this niche? Do you think people would be interested in finding out how to watch movies for free? You betcha and getting in and showing people how to do this would be worth a lot to them.

Yes, there is a lot more to learn but this is a learn as you type profession and I believe that you are ready.

      LOL! that is SO true.

Getting a coach or mentor will drastically improve your chance of success and dramatically reduce your learning curve, which often times taking too much time to turn a profit will make you want to give up.

    Hello, welcome to the forum!

As far as your niche question goes, you can make money from that niche. I know of someone doing over 10K per month from a site where they simply review movies, update release time etc. Now that it NOT going to happen to you in 2 months, it took him a long time to get there, but it wasn't anything special.

Even if you don't end up making money from that niche, it will be a good place to start because you are knowledgeable and you can put content out there and feel confident about it. I bet you will be surprised with the results if you stay committed for the long term.

    Good luck!

Hello and welcome to this great forum.

I think it's a great idea to do the movies website. Just be careful when selecting a domain name, be sure you don't put any copyrighted/trademarked names etc. in your title. You could end up spending years on a website building it up and making it profitable, just for the copyright owners to come and shut you down.

There is nothing wrong with having pages/posts/categories within your site dedicated to a copyrighted name, as far as I am aware. Maybe someone else can chime in on this particular point.

All in all though I'd say go with something you enjoy writing and speaking about. Something you speak about in your everyday life or is at least a part of your everyday life. Something you are knowledgeable in, movies in your case.

Most websites and online media's can be monetized well enough if you get enough traffic and subscribers. Like one of the earlier posts said do something you enjoy, so you don't get put off when you ain't making any money in the first few months and you can just keep happily doing what you're doing, because you enjoy it of course.

I made the mistake of trying to start an insomnia relief website and I didn't have clue what I was talking about, wasn't making anything within the first few weeks and got bored to death (almost literally), because let's face it, insomnia relief is a pretty boring topic.

I say go for it. Do the movie site, movies has been a profitable & popular niche around a century now, albeit offline for the most part.

    All the best.

  • Hi kelik! Something I learned is that a good niche is not necessary what you are passionate about. In fact, the idea is to look from the other end of the binocular, so to say: look where there is a big demand, and also competitors (good sign that the niche is a good one) and then see if you can beat the competition, which is NOT ALL sites in that niche out there...but simply...the first 10 ones (first page of Google, whereas, as you know, the top 5 get it all basically).

A good way to have ideas is to head to Amazon and see the bestseller section, the magazine section (= if there is a magazine there is the potential) etc.; also, you can just have a look at the "for dummies" series: hugely popular, and so clearly revealing which niches to go after...at least in a broad sense

This is perhaps to start with...then ask again and again..and again...
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[5424263].message }}
  • Welcome to Kelik- yes you can make money in the movie niche. It is not the one I would personally get into but if it your passion and you watch one everyday then it makes sense for you.

I would create a movie blog where you comment and review on movies. Use Google Adwords keyword tool to find long tail keywords related to your movies. Optimize your blog for those keywords. You start my making money from Adsense and then later on you might post some CPA offers related to movies or relevant affiliate products.

    Good luck!

Hey everybody, I'm also new to this forum, but it seems like a great place to find genuine information on internet marketing.

To answer your question I would say movies is a great niche. One thing I know you do not want to do is get into a niche you hate just because it's popular. If your really into movies then go for it, especially when you know you won't get bored of that niche and can right plenty of great articles on it. Good luck!

Going with something that you like is always good to keep you motivated. Be careful when you are getting keywords as they can make or break you. If you are new then hiring someone with good rep might be a good idea. In the past i lost a lot of time on an EMD domain that had a bad keyword.

Yes, choosing a niche you are passionate about can be very lucrative. You just have to target the right audience. You would need to hang out in forums where people who like movies hang out and you can find these with a simple google search. The warrior forum is an internet marketing forum. You could also start a facebook fan page and build a fan base. You collect emails and get a mailing list going. You could monetise this list by offering them CPA offers such as netflix or some of the free movie offers out there and get paid per lead. If you had a movie review website or blog, you could add adsense and then also put banners for other offers that are related. You may also be able to offer movie discounts as you come across them.

Welcome to the forum. Yes "movies" can be a profitable niche, but if you are a newbie I'd stick to easier to "win" niches if you are looking to draw traffic from the search engines, or either find a niche within the movie niche that isnt as tough.
