Agreed, but Gimp can be a bit duanting for new users. If all you want to do is simple photo manipulation (such as captions) you might want to consider the Photoshop Elements/Premiere package which is very affordable (around $130.00 or so I believe). With this combo you can also do video editting. I admit though, that I've not personally used it yet. So, perhaps someone who has can offer some advice too.

      Regards,
      jim

Gimp 100%. You just cant edit PSD files like Photoshop can. But you can easily turn pictures transparent and manipulate them really easy. There's tons of guides on Gimp on the internet.

If all you want is to add text to a photo or image - use Irfanview. It's free and very easy to use.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

The .gif file was still too big for WF, so I saved it as a smaller jpeg and it worked. Super simple interface.

There's the qualifier. Easy and simple.

So, that leaves out Photoshop and GIMP.

Try FastStone Image Viewer. It's easy and simple. Will do what you want.
