Although I/We now teach newcomers ourselves i agree with x3xsolxdierx3x. My foundation of knowledge is based on 5 things. Chris Farrell Membership was where i spent around 1 month overcoming some of the initial confusion which had built up in the previous 3 months.

That helped give a basic understanding from which the skills i now have grew. This forum and the Honest Work From Home Success forum were and still are great sources of information and friends.

Then there is google search (our friend & our Bane) & Youtube which nowadays has almost everything IF you can find it.

Mentors are one of the best ways to stop bouncing around reading and starting lots but never actually getting anywhere which is how, and this is a guesstimate, I would say 70% of IM'rs start and why most of those fail.

With a mentor you learn focus and when you don't understand something or it doesn't quite work you can ask a question directly and get a direct answer in return rather than 20 answers of which 15 have very little relevance or are one liners. Don't get me wrong the 5 answers which you do get are great it's just harder work to get them.

I honestly have no gurus. I DO have trusted friends whom I've met in this business that I network and exchange knowledge with. Where I'm weak, some of them are strong and vice versa.

My suggestion to you is to study someone has had proven success, match their methods against others who have proven success, find the constants. Use those constants as "best practices" and never give up the fight.

Eventual build a good network of buddies who you can bounce ideas off of and ask for a little help once in awhile.

I have no Gurus. I don't rely on anyone else for my business.

But with that said, there are some people who I would pay attention to any time they said something.

That includes: Allen says and Paul Myers.

Anyone outside that list are I probably listen to just because I like them. I don't tend to pay attention to people I a) don't like or b) don't already know.

That leaves a lot of people that others would probably consider Gurus.

My brother is my real Guru - he's had the biggest impact in my life and my mindset.

I belong to Lynn Terry's mastermind group and I follow most of the people who teach at the NAMS events (Niche Affiliate Marketing Systems). This includes people like Jeff Herring, David Perdew, Mark Hendricks, Nicole Dean, Susanne Meyers, Paul Evans, etc. I pick and choose advice based on what applies to my business model, but I trust these people.

My mentor right now is Peggy Baron for my growing PLR business. I also follow Tiffany Dow's methods.

I don't think there's any one "guru" you can follow. You have to develop your own unique approach and business model, then filter out the extraneous stuff.

exactly and that is a lie. In fact, most of the "gurus" ever mentioned here in WF started right here in WF. And if you stick around long enough, you can see who "made" who.

Its funny to see someone asking the most basic of questions, or expressing frustration of not making money one week, and the next they are an "expert".

I've had a few gentlemen that I've watched "do their thing" and come away from the experience with some great "new" ideas or enhanced understanding, but I definitely wouldn't want to insult them by calling them "gurus".

There are far too many negative connotations attached to that word.

fin, How many other marketers do you know that have a following in the "Billions" and that can generate millions (or maybe billions) of dollars on a daily basis without even being there to spread their message?

Now, I'm not religious, heck, I'm not even a christian, but I've read the bible and there's a lot of great marketing tactics in there. All you have to do is open your mind a little to see them.

Then, take a look at the guys and gals who go around repeating over and over again whats in the bible. Think they're not in it for the money?

"Send Me Your Money.... It could mean the difference between a Porsche and a Rolls Royce.... "

No-one. I don't believe in anyone being superior to someone else. When someone finds out they're starting to be seen as a guru, I'd imagine they'll get too big for their boots and start looking for a pay rise in line with their new status.

Which is when I reckon things go south and silly things happen. That's why I don't believe in having a guru.

Friends to listen to is a different matter.

I don't think he would really class himself as a Guru, but if you modelled Jason Fladlien, you wouldn't go far wrong..

My guru will be whoever posts underneath me.

Whoever you are, prepare to be stalked.

Don't really have any gurus per se, though I do like to follow Frank Kern and John Carlton\'s updates.

Not sure I claim to have any gurus, but I've studied and used resources from several sources:
Tim Ferris got me into the whole thing.
Ryan Lee was the first person I bought anything from, and I enjoyed his continuity program for quite awhile.
Jim Edwards is great at breaking down technical stuff
Ryan Deiss for systems and testing
Frank Kern I don't think I got much from, sadly.
Dan Kennedy and GKIC for marketing fundamentals

Got nowhere with Mark Hoverson (he got a LOT of money from me), Mike Filsaime seemed to just spam me with alot of overhyped stuff.

Recently joined Chase Watts and to be honest, he's one of the most helpful guys I've ever had the pleasure to work with.

These are just my opinions =)

Better to follow "Do-Ru"s - those that DO the stuff (rather than just teach it!).

I've had some great mentors over the years that have helped me grow my own businesses to way beyond what I thought possible (Filsaime, Walker, Schefren, Joel Comm) but at the end of the day the buck stops with you:

    1. Find what works
    2. Understand how it works
    3. Model the best
    4. Build a solid network
    5. Release your own products
    6. Never lose momentum
