authority site can take a long time for it to gain authority status if it ever does.
microniche sites are easy, dont take that long and you can build as many as you have time to manage.

currently Irun micro niche sites with adsense on them. And to manage I simply use an excel file as my task management tool for all my sites.

    hopes this helped

Could someone please give me an example of one versus the other? Trying to understand how a site couldn't fall into both categories...

The one in your sig, on first glance, seems well on its way to becoming an authority site.

A microniche site, on the other hand, typically only has 3-5 pages, sometimes up to 10. They tend to revolve around one or more product reviews, and are created to compete for search rankings for very specific, mostly long-tail keywords. One identifying characteristic is the EMD, or exact match domain.

Instead of 'yourmotorcycle.com', you'll find 'your-bugatti-x17-carburetor-kit.com', at least until Bugatti drops a C&D on them for trademark violations.

Because of their thin content, many microniche sites, especially review sites, took a serous beating during Google's ongoing Panda updates.

Thanks for your answer. How mant micro-niche sites do you have and can you earn decent money with them?

You can still make good money with micro niche sites but the trend is towards building authority sites so this is probably the better option long term.

It's totally up to you. It depends on what you like and what you feel good about. There is not a one thing that could answer it.

In my opinion, authority sites are much better. You can expand it if you really want to get into the niche and have a strong foundation for the future growth. I can't imagine to have 500 mini sites and to go around them and to manage them and to care about their rankings and all that stuff. I don't say it's a bad model for earning money, but when you have 5 authority website that you really care about, your customers or visitors would be much happier, because you have more time to spend helping them.

On the other hand, microniche sites more or less build and forget. Since they are just mini sites, you have to build more and more and more. And what if google or any other way you want to drive the traffic to them changes the rules? There is not much you can do.

Authority takes time and it is not as fast as it would be with microniche sites. On the other hand, you can always build one or two microniche sites along building the authority when you see a good opportunity, and still create a community of people who you can help.

So that's my opinion, I'm more for Authority websites, and less for microniche sites. But it's up to you and always has been. If you don't feel comfortable building an authority, then start with microniche sites and you would see if you like it.

    Hope it helps.

one over seen piece of advice I can give you on managing micronichesites is to use excel spreadsheet to know whatprocess has been done to what site and what needs to be done as far as seo on page and off page goes as well as content management.

To answer the question on how many I have and how much I make it simply depends on how many site you can build and manage.
at the time of this post I simply have 4 sites each makes me about 10 bucks a month YeahI know impressive lol
I didnt want to rush into building to many and not doing it right, my goal is to build 10per month.
I also plan on selling each after 3 -5months for quick profit on flippa.
