My First Web Hosting Commissions ($212.86) on CJ

Two months ago I installed a small banner on my website that went to GoDaddy's hosting page. This morning I woke up to my first CJ sale for this affiliate account. (I am also advertising Custom Presentation Folders on my other site with CJ)

What was mind-boggling is that I received 4 sales overnight. I have been sending exactly the same traffic for months to my site, but in one day I received 4 sales and made $212.86 combined. I think they bought a 12 month plan and paid forward. Internet Marketing can be psychotic like that

Nice addition to my Affiliate Trophy Room

Btw...CJ has a terrible control panel for reporting stats. It's slow and it's totally confusing. Kind of surprising that they never really improved their site ever since they launched... hmm.

Even though I have been running these ads for months now, I think I know what was different this time. About 3 weeks ago I began to improve all aspects of Website Homework from little content quality adjustments, to slight layout changes, improving navigation, etc.

A lot of people just focus on very small details like "writing articles", or "keywords", etc. And focus on that for days! That's great, as long as it's not the only part of your entire perspective as an Internet Marketer.

My recommendation is to start treating your website as a business. Don't just build back-links, try to focus on inventing new ways to improve your website looking at it from any and all angles you can. You chose to be your own boss. Act like it.

Create a logo for yourself. Create a memorable name. For example, people who in the past benefited from one of my article, come back to my site by typing "Website Homework" in Google. If I didn't spend time thinking about creating a memorable name, I would lose these customers forever.

Every once in a while, this site makes $5.00-$13.00 AdSense clicks! just from one click. This happens once in a blue moon, but think about it... what if that was one of those people who returned by typing "Website Homework"?

What if it was that person also, who bought web hosting coming to GoDaddy from my CJ banner? $212.86 is not a lot of money, I make a lot more with all my other sites, but this certainly helps. I am already pretty sure if I continue improving my sites, even doing things that have nothing to do with web hosting and this CJ banner, that my next month's earnings are going to grow even bigger, because this is what has been happening for 4 months now.

The point is, when you treat your site as a business, you start to diversify your work, in terms of the improvements you are making in all aspects of your site (design, layout, content, marketing... it all matters, and all adds up.) And when all elements work together, you reap rewards you otherwise wouldn't.

    Congratulations Greg!

I've been making small tweaks to my own blog as well this year and it's had a HUGE impact on our sales. Ever since I've started emailing on a more regular, consistent basis and also tweaking our blog for maximum conversions - I've been getting at least 10 new sales per day.

Before this year - I made 99% of my sales directly from my list. I wasn't integrating our offers into the blog itself. So this year with just a few tweaks - we have dramatically increased conversion AND created a much more systematized, consistent business.

By the way - I love the way you positioned the GoDaddy ad. VERY interesting and really stands out.

Can't wait to see more updates from you!

    Nice work.

If I'm not mistaken, most hosting affiliate programs will pay you the commissions only after the customers have been with them for a certain period of time. This is to stop people signing up and canceling just to milk the affiliate system.

So what could have happened is these people signed up at various times over the last month or two and GoDaddy have now just processed the commissions for all those leads at the same time. So you didn't necessarily make those 4 sales overnight.

    Just a thought.

Kim, glad to see someone else confirm my thoughts on this I think this year is going to be great. Some people even start talking about economy picking up. So as the general consensus become more and more promising, people will start to participate in the economy again. The point is, if we are making money now, imagine by how many % we will increase our earnings when things start to move...I am already seeing improvements in my own sites' traffic.

As an Internet Marketer we only see our side of the story. But we fail to see their side with the same amount of focus, because...well, we are not them.

So we see the worst of them, they see the worst of us. Of course, we ignore the worst of us! and they ignore the worst of them!

Why am I saying this? Put yourself in the shoes of GoDaddy. Do they really want to bother with affiliates who bring no commissions to them? Of course not, they have statistics they can use to determine who is likely to be more "talented" to bring traffic to them.

I joined GoDaddy a long time ago, but I also have a history of promoting other products on CJ.

If GoDaddy didn't approve me, I instantly move on to my next affiliate who will, and focus on them. I don't wait for anyone who is not giving me what I want right now. Move quickly. Operate swiftly... Learn as much as you can and make progress.

I have NO idea what you are trying to say here.

I was not saying you were not approved. I was explaining why you had 4 sales come in all at once. It's much more likely that it is because of the payment cycle of the company rather than the fact you just got 4 random sales on the same night... given your track record of no sales up until now.

For example, here is Hostgators payment schedule:

Commissions are verified at the end of each month, 2 months after the sale was sent. Payments are then sent within the first week of the next month. The registered account must also meet our requirements per our TOS and be currently active and paid up to date at the time of payout, and there is no minimum balance limit to reach before you are paid.

For example, if you made one sale in January, the sale will be verified at the end of March and you will be paid your $50 commission the first week of April. If you continue to make regular sales each month afterward, then expect to be paid on the first week of every month (after your first commission payment).
You see what I mean. Just because you got the commissions today does not mean the sales were all made today. I'm not sure of GoDaddy's affiliate payment schedule but this type of setup is quite common for hosting companies.

Wow , is it cold in here or is it just ... you

Will was just explaining to you exactly what happened.

            One more point.

Think what you could have made from those 4 sales if you had run them through your own reseller and collected the full payment for 4 year long accounts

Well, the point of my post was something completely different. When you post a message and others' follow-up messages don't address the issue you were pointing out, it can make people frustrated.

The truth is that neither of us know what the circumstances of the GoDaddy commissions are. However...

My point was that finally seeing first GoDaddy commissions is clearly the results of my intensive labor over the past 2-3 weeks as opposed to complete silence during the past 3 months.

I have been with CJ for 7 years, and after observing these stats in other programs, I know that commissions appear quite promptly... this is just what I observed in the past.

Work hard and improve existing content... and you will start seeing substantial gains. The idea I was trying to communicate is that the growth of your profits is in correlation with how much energy you spend on your website.

Lol...lost in translation. Thing is, you both make a good point. You have worked hard on creating great content and tweaking your site....exactly what you should be doing but on the other hand if those sales were made more than 2 or 3 weeks ago and there WAS a delay in the payment processing then the point here is that all that work actually did nothing to earn those payments....right??? Hmmmmm....might be worth trying to track back when those sales actually took place.

That's ok, just try and explain yourself a little better next time.

That's a good point to keep in consideration not just with GoDaddy but with most affiliate programs out there.

Sometimes people miss the fine print but if you're in this business long enough most of us will cut through most of the clutter (fine print) and have a better insight on how some affiliate programs are run.

I"m still learning quite a few - just for fun.
