Focusing on one method or trying several?

Hello Warriors

I have a question.

In your opinion - is it a better use of time for a newbie to IM to focus on one method of internet marketing (say article writing for example) and focus their time on that, or to try a mix of various techniques (article writing + videos + podcasts, for example)?

Any personal experiences of what you do, or did at first, and how it worked or didn't work so well would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Katie

Focus on one thing and become great at it and you shall reap the rewards. Learning and mastering an art/method can bring you lots of opportunities, trying to do everything only leads to info overload, and in the end you will just end up quitting as most have.

Most absolutely definitely focus on one thing. It's the scatterbrained jumping around and dabbling at a bit of this and a bit of that, which is causing a huge number of people to never get anywhere. I have never in all my years of business seen as much lack of focus as I see with those trying to make a buck online. Absolutely shocking.

Yes! I agree with the rest. Stick to one thing for a few days and observe the results. In case it doesn't work too well for you then move on to something else.

A few days? I'd go a lot longer than that. In fact, a few months seems short to me.

Success in business is all about persisting. It's easy to give up, but if you go that extra the rewards are fantastic.

I would have to agree with focusing on one thing. However, let me add this...

...stick with it for one year doing everything humanly possible to make it work. Make sure to track your results religously.

Many people do not give themselves enough time to see results and jump to the newest hyped product or service.

Focus, patience and a plan....that's all you need.

I remember hearing Ewen Chia speak at an IM seminar last year on the power of one. It had a big impact on me.

Before I went I had been learning adsense, the latest product/shiny thing, article marketing, setting up websites you name it .... after that I concentrated on one thing which for me was finishing writing my book. Until that time I had been doing a lot ... but I hadn't been doing any of it well

His opinion was that you just do the one thing and the one method until you are great at it and then move on. So if it is affiliate marketing for example you concentrate on the one website with one form of promo eg article marketing when you are converting and doing great at it then you can add one more thing and so on.

It is sometimes v. difficult though to focus on just one thing but it's worthwhile in the end.

I have a different opinion that most have stated here. While you focus on one project at a time and stick with it and not jump from one thing to the next you want to try a few different methods to get business. Test! Test! Test!

Willie Crawford gave me some of the best advice I ever got when he told me to stay focused and not jump around from one project to the next. That didn't mean to not try different methods to get business.

Try a few things to see what interests you most then pick one and focus on it. Unless you're super interested in the method/project you'll never stick with it long enough to reap the rewards. Don't waste too long on the first step, but in my opinion its an important one.

If you're talking about traffic generation, you can do more than one thing at a time - but not too many things so that you'll get confused and be unable to understand if it's working for you or not.

Article/content marketing is a great place to start since it's very simple and you can do so many things to generate visitors with your articles/content.

For example, with your articles you could also...

    - Submit the article to the article directories: ( Of course )

    - Take the article and place it on a related blog at blogger.com and then ping it at places like pingler.com ( 92 directories )

    - Turn the article into a squidoo page: & ping it:

Just make sure the headline and body are a little different from the same content you pinged or you will be accused of spamming.

    - Turn the article into a hub page: & ping it.

Just make sure the headline and body are a little different from the same content you pinged or you will be accused of spamming.

    - If the article is seo'd it could end up on the 1st page of the serps resulting in free ongoing visitors for you.

    - Bookmark every place your content resides on the net:

You don't even have to write the content yourself and there's lots of other ways to disseminate your content - I've just covered the basics.

    Hope This Helps!!
