Do we get in our own way?

So I have been thinking about this for a while. As marketers, especially on here it seems that some know more than others, but for the most part we have similar knowledge bases. One of my challenges is thinking that everyone knows what I know and I have a hard time pricing my services. I know how to make money online, but I feel that everyone else does. I do make a pretty good living working on several of the freelance sites as a consultant. So my question is this, how hard is is to move from the online consulting world where I get customers relatively easy and the going into the local market? For those who consult to offline businesses is it easier to sell services? Do people know that sites such as Odesk/Elance exist? What has been your experience? I would really like to hear from those who started in the freelance business then went local.

You know, I have been in outside sales and took my sales to the internet and made a lot more money. With that said here is my thoughts.

I believe the Internet to be a mass marketing tool. I believe the real world is moving like a snail vs. the Internet.

In other words do you want to sale a whole lot of people in hours time or visit with 20 or 30 people in a day.

I will add a disclaimer here; I have never tried to take what I do online to the real world except for advertising it out in the real world.

The internet is a feast or famine world. There are tons of people who are completely unqualified and would never be able to set up a business in the real world that try and fail. Not that they shouldn't, but they need loads of help.

On the other hand, with the right tools, and a normal intelligence, a teachable and dedicated person can do well.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

One advantage I find with offline/real world, is that it is a lot more personal and people are more willing to buy into you, as a person, when they can meet you face to face. You will never reach the same number of people as you can online, but the quality of your relationships will be a lot higher and you will likely be able to charge more than you can to an unknown online.

When life gives you lemons, at least you don't get scurvy.
