Is Elance Holding Me at Ransom?

Hi Warriors,
If you have been working online like me for some years you might have come across a similar problem that I am going through. My account was suspended for policy violation while I had 2 huge contracts. I am put between a rock and a hard place since I was sent this email by Elance Policy Department

"Your account was suspended for a policy violation and is not eligible for reinstatement at this time. Your account is currently under review until all of your open jobs are completed.
You will have the option to appeal the suspension after you have finished all of your jobs. Failure to complete your jobs before filing an appeal could result in an automatic denial of your appeal.
Please reply to this email when your jobs are complete to receive instructions on how to submit an appeal.
Best Regards,
Elance Policy"

My problem is that I cannot withdraw money from my accounts and this is seriously affecting my ability to work since I pay for internet on weekly basis. So has anyone lost their earnings in such a situation?

Please advice me

    Hi Joewriter,

    Hope this gets sorted!

DO you know what is the policy violation that they are claiming?

I've never been in that situation but I would recommend completing the jobs pending so that you at least have an opportunity to appeal.

    Hope it sorts itself out!

    Regards

    Chris

I inadvertently violated Elance's terms and conditions about two years ago, and they spelled out what I'd done wrong in an email. I didn't argue with them, after all I had done exactly what they said I'd done. I apologised, offered to make amends and said I would be more aware in future and not do it again. They suspended my account for a week and it's been business as usual ever since.

I'd suggest you finish your jobs then lodge an appeal; it sounds like that's the only way you've got any chance of getting your money. Finishing your jobs will preserve their reputation in the eyes of their buyers. The alternative sounds like it's an automatic denial, and that may have worse long term effects for you.

    Good luck.

      Hi:
My elance account was suspended today due to a policy violation. I did violate policy, but did not realize it at the time. I do have projects to complete and I am working on doing so now. Hopefully they will be finished by tomorrow. I will then submit my appeal.

I am wondering, does elance routinely give people 2nd chances, or does it routinely terminate accounts once all projects are completed. I am just wondering what my chances are of being reinstated.

      Thank you.

      Sebbie

If you want to see that money at all, you have to finish those jobs and file an appeal.

Launch a thread in Warriors for Hire or Fiverr for cash, but you won't see that money in Elance unless you get those jobs completed.

The issue here is getting the money to pay my Internet and Rent Bills for me to continue working for them.....They cant allow me to withdraw the money that I have already worked for today I got a warning eviction notice since I am suppose to pay my Rent by 10th so Am torn between this options,
=>Forgetting the money and the contracts that are all worth $700 and Get some other work since I have been using the profile for survival
=> Begging them to please allow me to get the money so that I can pay for my bills

Am trying the second one as I work as long as the internet lasts

I am worried that the client will be disappointed and he has nothing to do with this.. So I seem not to figure out if I should tell the client what is happening behind the scenes. I am still working but I am worried that the money could be trapped in the system when I can no longer work. Considering that the I have a log going contract.
Should I also work all the way to end of the month when I cant get the access to the money????? I think this is suicidal. The project is too demanding from the client and he is pleased with my work but I am very disappointed and I don't want to let him down

        More advice pleease

    Finish the jobs.

    Appeal the account suspension.

go get a job waiting on tables or something because
I do not think this money will be released to you on time to pay rent.

    Good Luck

I wonder why this is the case for you, my account also got suspended on Elance around 3 years ago, but I was still able to withdraw the money.

Anyway, you may want to check out oDesk.com; that's where I usually found work the last 2 years although I'm trying to focus on niche blogging now.

It appears they are holding your money because for some reason they think that you are going to withdraw the money and then not complete the work. If that is the case they should make the money available once the job is done.

You don't ask, you don't get.

Speak to them and see what you can work out. This is your problem not the client's try not to get them involved at all with "behind the scenes business".

I don't know if they routinely give second chances, all I can comment on is my own experience, when they were very fair to me when I had done the wrong thing. Perhaps they appreciated my not making excuses and accepting responsibility, and guaranteeing I'd not do it again. Good luck.

      Hello Joe,

Dont want to scare you but based on my experience they have made their mind to close your account permanently. They will release your money but will not reinstate your account

Elance operations team guys are thugs and bullying freelancers these days. It has become worst place for freelancers to work, they can close your business just like that. I realized this long time ago and moved to Odesk completely as they are way friendly and supportive to freelancers. PM me so I can tell you my full experience in similar situation.
