Really I don't know if there is even 10

But here are 5 I commonly use:

    1. Ezine Articles
    2. Go Articles
    3. Article Dashboard
    4. Article Base
    5. Idea Marketers

I guess it also depends on what niche you are in - b/c there are certain directories that are great for certain niches

There are thousands of these directories now, but if SOPA goes through there will be none! http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...stop-sopa.html

Ezine was highly effected by the Panda update and that is why they changed their entire site. They still have not gained their rankings back and probably never will.

To those of us using Ezine Articles every day for the reason for which article directories exist, that's a good thing, not a bad thing, of course.

It means we can submit copies of our articles there for publishers and webmasters to find and syndicate, without the risk that our potential customer traffic will find our articles there rather than on our own sites (we all lose most of that traffic).

That's among the ways that Google's Panda updates have done so many successful, professional article marketers a big favour, as so many of us have been commenting here for so many months.

By the way - for all the people listing "Buzzle" above: your information is nearly a year out of date, there. "Buzzle" has changed its entire business model, is no longer an article directory for the purposes listed here, and accepts no external links at all (not even in a resource box).

There are also other sites listed above as "article directories" which are not article directories.

Inevitably, forum "information" on this subject tends to leave a little to be desired.

There's no real point in submitting anything to an article directory for its own backlinks and/or for its own traffic. That's not what article directories are there for. And it's not what they work for, either.

Those are the page ranks of their home pages, Joshua. That has almost nothing to do with anything. Our articles are not published on their home pages!!

Websites don't "have page rank". Pages have page rank.

And articles published in article directories go on their own newly-formed, non-context-relevant, PR-0 pages.

        This is an "interesting" statement.

First, Buzzle isn't an article directory anyway, as explained above.

Secondly, if all the other article directories had been affected by the Panda updates and those two not, that wouldn't be a reason for using those two anyway.

Thirdly, it was because Buzzle was affected so much by the first of the Panda updates that it completely changed its business model.

And fourthly, it isn't even true that all other websites were affected by the Panda updates anyway.

But apart from that, well done ...

Alexa, I admire your unflagging efforts to promote this link, which is the finest of its kind on this topic. It explains everything a person needs to know to benefit from article marketing.

I have come to believe that people ignore the link (or don't search for it) because the information is free. Perhaps if you turned it into a $47 PDF people would swarm to it and grasp the wisdom you offer. The information is so good it would be cheap at thrice the price. Just a thought.

Both of those were affected but not all of the directories were affected, some actually benefited from the updates

Most of your articles, if you submit them even to the top ten, will just sit there dead.

Post Panda requires more. You have to think more in terms of traditional advertising now.

    Hola,

Ahh I am so excited to dive back into article marketing. Haven't done it in so long because I've been so busy balancing college with running a business but I will definitely start writing articles again for my freelance sites and also my lifestyle design sites, which I am the most excited about when it comes to submitting articles. There's just going to be so much to write about!

Remember, if you ever get writers block while writing your articles go meditate for a while and take your mind off of it completely. That's when the block breaks and your best ideas flow in!

I only use iSnare and eZineArticles. The former feeds on to dozens of directories. Takes a while to get approved, but once it's done. It's great!

Article Marketing has gone a way back where they started from. The truth is most of them would never recover unless and until they change the nature of their origin i-e domain blah blah.

Take example of ideamarketers. They have changed their fundamental dimension to ignitepoint. They dumped hundreds of thousands articles due to Google algorithm changes, traffic blockage, crap submission (For those that think automated submissions still work).
For more read this Marnie Pehrson's post What happened to ideamarketers. Most of the folks even have not visited it for months. Be wise at least check the heck out of something before commenting.

    Goarticles

The following link is about a match a streaming link (That no article directory can afford to allow because Google would not like free streaming, that means (zero traffic). The article ranks third as most viewed lol. Do you think article directories are the only places where people can find streaming links better than any other source?

Matt Cutts about Placing heck of ads
    CHECK FORMATTING.
Several Unicode errors, meaningless characters i-e ’ and 20 ads on each article. The worst part is Google dumping article directories for the reason they put a lot ads around a single article.
    http://goarticles.com/article/Finlan...HD-TV/7273755/.

    iSnare
This one goes offline for several days. You would get an email reply after a year that the article that you submitted last year has been rejected lol. A very long vacation spree. Check best articles of the day. There are two or three authors that submitted more than 7 or 8 articles each. That means lack of administration and submissions.

Even article directories like eZine and Articlebase have lost 90% of traffic. Google it(Traffic to articlebase and ezine after Google algorithm update)

NOW DOES IT MEAN ARTICLE MARKETING IS DEAD?
No, one needs to be very organized. It is simple write to the administrator of any article directory about their Social Exposure. For example whether they promote the content on social sites or bookmarking sites or follow the sites that can provide you real RETURN on per submission.

My clients ask me to write and submit articles to Squidoo, ezine, calameo and Sooper Articles. I have a hired team for that just enjoy a fringe benefit of it :p.

I have found that article marketing is a good thing to do. However, what I have also noticed is you have to build the back links from these article directories over time. You can no longer blast them like we used to do. I found one of my sites which I used to do this with falling dramatically, but the other ones that I drip fed in over time kept me ranking highly.

I focus mainly on EzineArticles. If there were another place i would submit to it would be ArticlesBase, but EZA blows them out of the water so much that i just stick with EZA. Fast, easy, and i still get good traffic.
