Let's Talk About FORUM Phsycology... (Open Discussion)

I've been browsing tonnes of forums lately, looking for niches and information, and a few personal ones to interact with people who have similar interests to me.

In some forums some members have hillarious avatars that stand out.

Different Rankings.

Cool screennames, or thier Real Name.

Some members have 2,000 posts, others have 7.

Do you think that these variables, such as: avatar, username, postcount, thanked times, thanks given etc. impact how others may see you, respect you or whatever? and why?

Let's talk!

Personally I feel one thing is for sure - all members automatically have a lebel of trust for the forum admin, they believe them to be good honest people. Well that is my theory anyway.

As for post count I'm not sure, but I do feel that members in general trust those with 5,000 posts. But again this is just a feeling.

What do you guys and girls think?

I don't know about all that other stuff, but egregious spelling errors really lower my trust in fellow forum members.

I can tell you that forum screen name, post count, thank count, and avatar (and yes spelling mistakes) all affect how people are perceived. Those with a real name, avatar, and high thank count are more accepted and trusted.

This is basic human psychology. When people don't have a lot of information, or even when they do, they make "snap judgements" based on superficial clues about a person.

Unfortunately being negative also contributes to the perspective people hold of you.

I've noticed you "pimping" your link Loksch and that's generally considered bad behaviour. Just something to think about. We don't want you being banned.

        Speak for yourself, paleface.

This person is posting stuff off the top of his/her/its head that's clearly got no basis in reality, and doing it to get exposure for the MMM affiliate link in the sig file.

High post count doesn't automatically qualify you as the wisest person nor does low post count indicate inexperience.

I have seen some folks with post counts of less than 10 that have astounded me with their gems of wisdom before they vanish into the abyss of cyberspace.
