Keep An Eye Out, So You Can Take Advantage of Unanticipated Opportunities

This morning, I just happened to open an email from one of my favorite newsletters.

One of my favorite authors was the guest author in this particular issue.

As I was scanning the article quickly before reading, I noticed my name in the article!! LOL

David Jackson has done this to me before... I open his article to read it, and then I realize that he was kind enough to mention me in his article.

In this article, he was talking about 13 "thought-provoking" articles that influenced his online marketing career.

He chose my article as one of the 13... Ironically, it was an article I wrote in 2002...

As soon as I realized that he had linked to one of my old articles, I went directly to my website and updated the article and its resource box.

Now, I have the opportunity to sell one of my listed products today and possibly even get some new subscribers on my mailing list...

This is an opportunity that I would not have had if I had not opened that email this morning, because I had not updated the resource box on that article since 2004!!

Just imagine if only 0.01% of the readers of that newsletter go to my website to read that article, then I could potentially have 5,000 people reading my article today!!

Contrary to the popular opinion of some folks around here, this proves that Quality Articles will sometimes take on a life of their own and continue to deliver value to the author, years after they are written.

It also proves that you should keep an eye for unanticipated opportunities to cash in on those things you have done before.

Just read your 2002 article. It is just as useful now as it was then. I especially liked this: "Providing you are successful in teaching the readers something of value in an interesting manner, then you will find your articles getting published regularly, even in the larger ezines."

When I have time I want to go back and read the other 12 articles that influenced David Jackson. There are some interesting titles among them.

This is so true and it happened to me too. I usually bulk delete my unwanted emails. The other day after I did the bulk delete, I landed on an email from someone I didn't know, I just scanned the message in the reading pane without opening it and they were asking if I would accept $50 to write an article on one of my blogs with a link back to them.

I've almost deleted several emails before that looked like spam from their titles or were from names I did not recognize, only to have something "tell me" I should read them. In every case, the emails were from old clients using different email addresses or strangely worded titles and asking me to do new projects for them. And I almost deleted them! Best of all, these emails were not expected, so they definitely were opportunities coming out of the blue. You just have to be careful and really be on the lookout for good things, because they will often find you, and you want to recognize them.
