What do you consider valuable content?

We all know that Content is King when building and running a site. We all know when out sourcing or writing your own content, you want the best quality content because it attracts the best people. Content that is so focused and clear to read is what I consider good content..

What about you guys? What is good content to you?

Content that compelles people to take action, wether it be opting in, following you on social media, or becoming a true fan. Of course the content has to be unique as well, and great content will also be linked to from other sites.

For me a good content is friendly to SEO purpose and attractive to our reader in the same time. Because when we too focus on SEO and repeating the keyword, the content may not that attractive to our readers.
Beside that a good content must be unique!

Valuable content means to me something that I can learn from. And I consider quality content something with no grammar errors, easy to read and with a good flow. Does it make sense?
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[5440270].message }}
  • Valuable online content, as many of us are starting to realize, is content that adds to the internet and increases its worth rather than dragging it down. In many cases that also means it puts money directly or indirectly into the content owner's pocket, but even that's not always the case (many people create just because they love to create).

There are multiple ways you might see the value of content expressed...

    It might make a sale.

It might help a reader explore a deep interest.

    It might make people laugh.

    Change an opinion.

    Build a following.

    Create a brand.

    Hold a readership's trust.

    Educate.

The moment you start to see the value in content only derived from its direct sales is the moment you know you have missed the point on what constitutes the good stuff. As long as it accomplishes a purpose and gives rather than takes, it's well worth the virtual space it takes up.

If it's inaccurate, lifeless filler that clogs up the search engines in a desperate hope to get a sale, it's only ruining the Internet in order to bring a payoff to its master. Fortunately, sales are best made by adding value, and valuable content can spread a message just as well or even better than clogging search engines.

    There's hope yet.

Unfortunately, that's not the standard. I've read plenty of original content that presents zero relevant facts and makes me want to carve out my eyeballs with a rusty spoon. :p

Valuable content is, obviously, also original. However, in addition to be original, valuable content makes readers WANT to read all the way to the end, because it's just so darn interesting and captivating.

Then, when they do reach the end, valuable content makes readers say, "I didn't know that! Luckily, I found this, because that's exactly what I needed to solve my problem/answer my questions. Whoever wrote this must really know their stuff. Here's a link of theirs. I think I'll click on it and go take a look to see what other valuable information they have for me..."

For readers of content, the value lies in learning new information, or at least being entertained. For producers of content, the value lies in the effect that the content has on a reader - what it causes the reader to do.

Good content helps answer a question or solve a problem that a searcher in that niche has. It can be generally text based, but often well placed screen shots help explain an issue better. Video is also a very good form of content. Many of the best blog posts and webpages contain all three ingredients.

A site that keeps me coming back has new, fresh content that hasn't been repeated over and over on other sites.

Good content to me also has to have a nice flow to it from beginning to end like a good story. I like articles to have the unique 'voice' of the writer.

You're saying you don't want your readers to be engaged enough to finish the article?

You don't care if they want to click to your site or ever return to your site a second time?

There's nothing you want your readers to be compelled to act upon such as... opt-in to your list, buy your product, or even leave a comment?

Valuable content for me is what was created to give people something instead of just trying to take something away from them (by directing them to click on any link or buy a product). Useful is the information which is of help to the readers and gives them a feeling of satisfaction and gratitude.

In some cases, I consider valuable these materials which I want to read or watch more than once. Valuable is the information I choose to save and why not - share.

    Content that is:

    1. Informative
    2. Persuasive
    3. Entertaining

This goes for Web content and info products for all markets. If you've got stuff that does those three things consistently and are able to put it in front of targeted traffic you'll be outrageously successful.

As far as good content goes, anything that says something about something that people want!

Video, Audio, Image, Text, all are valuable content as long as they are providing good information that the user wants.

However, in IM, i'd say the best content is text! simply because it has more values in SE indexing, and that is the dominating method of search.

Average content -- tells me what species of gemstones I will find in a region.
Good content - will give me directions to get to locations with heavy occurrences of the crystals.

Great content will tell me what tools are best to have with me, and any hazards in the location, such as mountain lions, prevalence of rocks that will tear tires, and likelihood of any inclement weather that makes passage dangerous.

Optimal content (for the webmaster) is at least good content with a link to products, free or not, that contain more answers.

Great content can be shared in multiple formats including audio, video, interactive surveys, downloadable ebooks... anything that engages your audience to connect with what you offer. The key is fast transformational problem solving value that's quick and easy to implement and will make positive lasting changes that they'll want to share with their community!

Good content to me is something that other websites and blogs will want to link to automatically so that their readers will find it helpful and useful also. Also note that "good content" doesn't necessarily mean a 500-700 word article (or a 20-minute long video). If people are linking to it automatically, and visitors are clicking back to your website and buying products because they liked your info... then you officially have good content.

Content that large numbers of ezine publishers and webmasters, with tens of thousands of targeted subscribers, in my niches, want to syndicate and put in front of their readers, with my links in it.

In other words, content that brings me in floods of pre-targeted traffic without my having to do any more than circulate it to people who need "content".

I can't produce much more valuable "content" than that: for me, it certainly beats SEO/rankings, even though some of those will often follow it, too, just from the relevant backlinks carrying so much linkjuice.

From a consumer of content standpoint, content I feel adds to my knowledge, leads me to a solution I need, or keeps me coming back to reference when I need it. That's valuable content.

From a marketing standpoint, content that leads the reader to the action I want them to take (such as placing an order, opting into a list, completing an offer), and also content that keeps the visitor coming back (stickiness) so I have more opportunities to convert them in one way or another.

Some of my content doesn't directly result in sales/commissions/etc. But with visitors coming back to my site to refer to material several times, builds a level of trust, which can lead to the visitor trusting my content on the next subject. Which results in more willingness to buy, sign up, opt in, etc later as well.

Maybe I could do better with this, but in some of my sites, I don't PUSH the opt in, instead after someone finds several of my content items useful, they choose to opt in through the rather unobtrusive subscription link located on each page. The result, by the time they opt in, they've already decided my content is useful to them, and so I get a responsive list out of them.
