Has Twitter 'Popped it's own cork'?

Twitter has been a great tool for keeping world-wide communications alive and well, with important 'breaking' news being posted throughout the Twitter community in a 'virtual' instant.

Lately it has become a joke though - We now get LESS spam in our E-mail accounts for sure, but they all seem to have moved onto Twitter as the easiest option.

Those Twitter-boys must have their work cut out 24/7 trying to block their accounts. In the meantime, we're left feeling suspiscious of EVERY new follower these days.

What do others think about the way Twitter is heading?

Pete.

This is something which happens to most sites which get popular real fast. I am sure they will come up with a great system which would clean it all up.

    My prediction...

They'll overreact when they get around to doing a clean up and end up 'cleaning up' somebody like Dana or even Darren Rowse along with thousands of other people. This will create an uproar where they either go Google/eBay/PayPal like and ignore the problem or own up to the mistake and correct things but not to everyone's satisfaction.

The next big debacle will come when their money people want to see some ROI. Hello, Adver-Tweets that you can't opt out of.

Another problem is the TinyUrl link cloaking. They should address this ASAP with their own shortening service that shows the actual destination of the click. This is a time bomb waiting to explode too.

I think you'll find if you go to Twitter search there's an 'expand this link' function that lets you see the TRUE URL. So cloaking wouldn't be an issue for anyone who's highly suspiscious :-)
