First off - send them one or two purely informative emails that will give them value so they look forward to more -- and that should stall you for time to find a good product to affiliate with, or time to make one to promote to them. Either way - grab the product link - write an email about why this is a good product for them to check out, etc and so forth and send it after the few purely valuable emails without any promotions that you just sent them.

And keep doing it - a couple of pure value emails - then a promotional email. Keep your eyes open for products that will actually be of value to your subscribers and NEVER promote anything purely to make a buck.

Um........that's about all there is to it really.

      HeySal

I have a question about this - do you ever do two or three promotional emails on the same product in a row? Maybe the first one or two are more of a soft sell with a casual mention at the end and another one is more targeted?

I'm going to be revamping my email responder to be more focused and hopefully profitable. I have the purely informational thing going on just fine. Pretty sure I don't have the selling part right. Wondered how you balanced that with getting enough exposure but not overloading with promotion.

      Thanks!

Honestly, you will have a hard time making $1 with a scraped list.

... and that is not to mentioned all of the spam complaints you will be receiving.

If it's a scraped list, then you don't deserve to earn
        anything from the list.

The results you get from a list depend upon the effort
        you put into it.

Your best bet is to delete the list and focus on building
a real list of genuine subscribers who have actually given
you their permission to contact them.

And then people wonder why internet marketers, collectively, "enjoy" the reputation that we do ...

Don't expect to be too popular, around here, Daniel, with attitudes like that. You're one of the spammers damaging the credibility of the rest of us, and understandably provoking sometimes heavy-handed behavior from regulators.

    Hey Daniel,

What niche is this list from and how did you build it?

What you need to do is build a relationship with this list and bombard them with value, every once in awhile giving them snippets of a product you can affiliate with that is related to the niche they came in with..

But always give them 10 times more than you're selling or else your open rate will start going down and eventually not make much money..

Since they are scrapped, try to find (if you can) what did the people on that list sign up for!

if you do find that, promote relative products, if you don't shoot with hot new products, a 5% discount on a new book maybe.

One rule though, Easy comes Easy goes! don't put high hopes on that. However, if you were lucky to get through with some, do try to build your own focused list! it will come in handy!

You won't be able to import it into a service like Mailchimp, I mean you can import them but once you send out an email and get a couple bounce backs they'll shut down your campaign.

The way 'blackhatters' get away with it is sending them from their own server. BTW this is spam and it's illegal to do. Not to mention this list doesn't know or trust you, they're probably not targeted, and they get a bunch of spam already (you're not the first to scrap emails from the internet).

If you want to make money online you're not going to do it by going for the quick and easy way. Anyone can scrape a list, and if ANYONE can do something you won't make money that way (because everyone would be doing it). You have to provide value first and ask for the email second.

If you need a way to make some money fast (we've all been there) take a look at this thread- What to do if you're desperate.

What is the quality of the list? Is it very niche? Is the niche with high disposable incomes? If you bought the list somewhere, it's a different case than if you generated that list through your own site or through paid traffic via a specific sales funnel.

Daniel - I never even thought to ask the question of where the list came from. I guess I assume too much.........

You can build your own list. Get a blog - if you can't afford your own hosting, grab one from Blogger.com. Put up some good, interesting posts about your niche. Buy or make an informational product on a relevant subject. I write PLR ebooks and reports just for this purpose and so do a lot of other warriors here that are excellent writers and very knowledgeable in their niches -- if you can't find a product in your niche, just check out some of my salespages for my plr and you will be able to figure out what you need to do to write your own. You can write on Open Office and then it's just one click to make it into a PDF. Open office is free and you can add pictures to your pages, and live links, too.

Once you have a product and a few posts - you can get yourself an auto-responder account -- someone else can probably tell you more about the best one that is free or cheap to start with. I'm not a tech so get that info from someone else who knows more than I do.

Then write a post and tell all about your free product and point them to the box to sign up for your emails. There are people in this forum who can help you every step of the way. If you follow that system, you will be able to build a list that is always safe to send mail to - and will be more interested in what you have to deliver.

Once you give them the free product - just do what I said in my first post.

This is really simple Daniel -- I have no tech skills and was able to manage it, so don't be hesitant. Just make sure the product you send them free is good enough to keep them happy. If you provide them crap right off the bat they will let you know by unsubscribing whether it was free crap or not.

How the heck are you going to do that?

The ethical marketers that have replied above in this post suggest that you abandon your scraped list. I agree. You will get nothing but trouble by mailing to a list of people who have not 'consented' to join your mailing list.

Start off on the right footing, some suggestions on how to do this are made in the thread.

Don't start your Internet marketing career by trying to use 'the dark side of the force'!

      Just my thoughts,

      Jeff.

HeySal great post and info, it's great to see Warriors helping out here rather than just criticizing. Posts like that are what makes this the best Internet Marketing Forum on the web.

And everyone stop asking about the emails he has! Take an extra minute to read some of the responses before posting. This place is about helping each other out and adding value, not increasing your post count. Not trying to rant, just frustrating when other people are genuinely here to help.

Oh believe me, the money is most definitely in the list. But - and it is a big but - that is like saying "there's gold in them thar rocks!" It is only true if you start with the right rock and know how to extract the gold effectively.

Otherwise you only embark on an expensive exercise in futility.

There is no such thing as a list really. To think of the collection of people who have chosen to ask to receive something from you as a amorphous mass is to entirely miss the point. 'List' marketing is about communicating with a collection of individuals.

Email marketing, or newsletter publishing, is a very profitable business as you have a ready made audience for any promotional message you choose to send them. Who can't make money with free advertising?

Actually, quite a few people can't and the reason they can't is that they don't care about the people who they send their messages to - only about the dollar signs they think that 'list' will bring them. But every list is make up of individuals - whether that list is lovingly grown by ethical methods or unethically stolen by scrapers - and those individuals are not, by and large, stupid. They can tell if your emails to them represent value to them, are worth opening and reading and subsequently, they are quite able to determine if you are worth supporting and encouraging by buying the stuff you recommend.

With a scraped list you are starting from a negative - they don't know you, don't know why they are getting your email, feel suspicious (and these days probably aggreived as well) and are very likely to report you as a spammer.

Recovering from that kind of dent to your online reputation could cost you dear.

My advice is to take your scraped list, highlight the file it is in and click on the delete button. Then empty your trash folder so you are not tempted to retrieve it again later.

There is great money in list building and effective email communication with the people you build a relationship with. Start out right and you'll profit for years and build yourself a sparkling reputation along the way. Start out wrong and you won't.

Build a list to make money online = Right Idea!

Use scrapped email list = Wrong Strategy

What should I do now?

    Answer = Change your strategy

Forget about trying to monetize this list. Start over again with a new list with confirmed opt ins. Then once you have a more targeted gathering it will be a lot easier to monetize.

Start with solid foundations, scrapping is not the way unfortunately, set yourself a blog and leave good comment, have an opt in box with a free give away, it takes time to build a list, if you're looking to make a quick buck, it rarely happens, good luck anyways.

    Hope this helps

Besides that it IS illegal and probably wont get you any money...

Give something away for free to this list of yours... Set up a campaign where you offer them some great stuff just for signing up, and they'll sign up to your real list. There you go, maybe you'll get a few 100 members if your lucky to have members in the right niche.

Honestly if your using a scrap email list.... start all over again from scratch ...

build your own list in your niche, like sal mentioned get your blog set up and build a relationship with your list that your building, through your blog about your niche. Give your list good value content wise. get them to trust you be ethical. And use aweber for your email list, alot of marketers are using aweber myself included.

thats a start then eventually you can start selling to your list good luck mate.
