I have a hosting plan with a service company (the plan was set up by a friend connected with the company). I have 4 business websites set up, but none of the sites are making any money. I am paying about $70.86 USD each month (because of bandwidth being utilized). I am extremely busy right now with other matters, and I want to revamp the sites at some point - when I have more time, but I don't want to continue spending money for hosting with my current situation. I don't know very much about Hosting options, but I was looking at:

-Possible suspension of hosting services for a specified period of time (Just in case a contact rep person at the company tries to "convince" me otherwise, is this a possible option?)
-Terminating the hosting altogether (I know I will save money, but are there any possible downsides to this option in the event I want to set up revamped sites in the future?)
-Transferring to another hosting service altogether.

The final question:- what is the process for the transfer of web material from one hosting provider to another?

I would cancel everything and forget about transferring... Whoever you're hosting with is really screwing you..sorry to say

    4 domains hosted should only cost about 110 - 140 a year

The reason i say you can't transfer is because your current host will lock them and not let you.

Starting over with bluehost would be a great idea.

absolutely look for a better host. $70 per month to host 4 sites is ridiculous. Now if your sites were getting huge amounts of traffic, and you needed to upgrade to a dedicated server, that's different.

But for beginner sites, you can host unlimited sites from such hosting companies as BlueHost, Hostgator, etc.

another piece of advice: never host your sites at the same place where you've registered the domains. You want to be always in control of your own domains and you never want to have a hosting company hold your domains hostage. Trust me, it's happened to people.

Now if your current host provides you with a cpanel to manage your hosting account, there's a tool in there to do a complete backup. Do a backup if you can of all 4 sites so that once you change over to a new host, they can restore your backup onto the new server.
