How I Make $$$ on Amazon
I don't have 300 sites or even 30, I have 3. actually I really only have 1. I own 3 but I really just began having my seo guy work on the other 2. So I only have 1 site making me that a month.
My site's traffic has fallen a bit this week and I'm only getting around 100 unique visitors per day and just 10-20 visits to my primary moneymaker (top product).
Here's what you need:
1. You need to go on Amazon and select what product you are going to target. Go into Home & Kitchen, Sports/Outdoors, Patio/Lawn or whatever sections and look for items costing more than $100. Heck look at items costing $300+. The site making me all my money (#1 product: $340 #2 product: $450) people will buy stuff that expensive. Make sure they have at least, AT LEAST!!! 15 customer reviews. If you can find one with 25+ even better. That should tell you people are buying it and more importantly, they feel compelled to come back and leave a review.
*** Note: I know when i buy something on Amazon, I don't come back and leave a review. I don't think I have ever done this. It takes a good deal of buyers for a product to acquire 20 reviews. I'd venture a guess in excess of 100 buyers for 20 reviews to accumulate - probably more.
2. Keyword Research. Go on Adwords Keyword Tool, make sure you are using "exact" match, not broad. See if people are searching for it. What I like to do is target products that receive least 10,000 "local" (United States or whatever country you live in) searches per month for the main keyword(s).
For example: Say I'm considering a product like Ceiling Fans. I will see how many searches "ceiling fan" and "ceiling fans" get. if both are at least 10,000 local searches per month - you know you can get a great deal of traffic daily if you hit page 1 for that product. You don't even have to reach #1 on page 1, just page 1. Chances are good, competition on page 1 going to be steep so just getting on page 1 is the goal, anything beyond that is just icing on the cake.
Also make sure you target some secondary keywords like "top ceiling fans", "best ceiling fans", "hunter ceiling fans" and "ceiling fan reviews". These keywords will get less traffic than the main keywords listed above but these will get you traffic far quicker, and it will convert. Trust me. They will actually convert a lot better than "ceiling fans" will because they are more targeted.
3. Outsource: If you can afford it. Outsource the SEO. Find a good Warrior here who can get your results. Don't be afraid to shop around and tell someone thanks but no thanks. You will never be able to make a great deal of $$$ online if you don't make friends in all the right places. Treat your SEO guy well. He is going to be the guy to get you traffic. It will take a few months but if he's good, you will see your traffic increase on a monthly basis.
4. Write Quality Reviews:
Research the product you'll be promoting a bit. Read customer reviews and see what they are saying (good and bad). Make sure your review is at least 300 words. People will say the longer the better. I think that's crap. Just write a good review and touch on everything you know. As long as it flows and is quality work giving readers value, I will take a 350 word article over a double-vision inducing 1,200 word review any day.
5. Don't be afraid to test. In my humble opinion, there is a great deal of hypocrisy here on the Warrior Forum. Everyone preaches test, test, test some more. Well for fun, go start a thread asking how to test conversions for an Amazon review site. Bet ya don't get back too many helpful answers. Because not too many people know how.
A/B split testing is all the rage. Test version A vs. version B and see which one wins. Seems simple enough and it is. However in order to test for an Amazon, you need to not only apply your tracking code to version A and version B, but you must also attach the tracking code to your conversion page. Only problem with that is Amazon likely will not be open to you inputting your tracking code on their site's stylesheet.
So here's what you need to do. Forget the google webmaster tools, don't pull out your credit card for a monthly membership on visual website optimizer or upload Max A/B plugin.
Just use the 2 simplest tools you have your disposal: Your Orders/Earning Statement on Amazon and Google Analytics.
Let's say you want to test whether that Epic Poem 1200 word review will convert better than your 400 word review. All you need to do is run the 1200 word version for 1 week. I recommend letting at least 100 unique visitors view your review. At the end of the week, see how many sales of that product were made. Do the same with version B of that review.
Make sure both version receive equal amount of traffic. If both versions get 150 visitors; Version A makes 3 sales (of your target product only) but Version B makes 9 sales (once again of your target product), chances are Version B is the better model to follow. This isn't an exact science but it will give an idea. If you want definite answers as to which is better. Let each run for a month. Let them each get 1,000-2,000 visitors each. You will then know which is best.
There you are guys. Don't let anyone tell you that money cannot be made on Amazon. Haters will cite Amazon's "low" commission rate because they don't understand. Those same people either haven't tried promoting Amazon products or just really sucked at doing it and gave up way too soon.
Also guys, right now I'm only getting traffic from organic SERP results. I plan on implementing PPC into my routine so watch out if I get that up and running.
Good luck guys!
