How I Make $$$ on Amazon

I made $1,700 in the month of December and I am projected to make between $800-$950 this month.

I don't have 300 sites or even 30, I have 3. actually I really only have 1. I own 3 but I really just began having my seo guy work on the other 2. So I only have 1 site making me that a month.

My site's traffic has fallen a bit this week and I'm only getting around 100 unique visitors per day and just 10-20 visits to my primary moneymaker (top product).

Here's what you need:

1. You need to go on Amazon and select what product you are going to target. Go into Home & Kitchen, Sports/Outdoors, Patio/Lawn or whatever sections and look for items costing more than $100. Heck look at items costing $300+. The site making me all my money (#1 product: $340 #2 product: $450) people will buy stuff that expensive. Make sure they have at least, AT LEAST!!! 15 customer reviews. If you can find one with 25+ even better. That should tell you people are buying it and more importantly, they feel compelled to come back and leave a review.

*** Note: I know when i buy something on Amazon, I don't come back and leave a review. I don't think I have ever done this. It takes a good deal of buyers for a product to acquire 20 reviews. I'd venture a guess in excess of 100 buyers for 20 reviews to accumulate - probably more.

2. Keyword Research. Go on Adwords Keyword Tool, make sure you are using "exact" match, not broad. See if people are searching for it. What I like to do is target products that receive least 10,000 "local" (United States or whatever country you live in) searches per month for the main keyword(s).

For example: Say I'm considering a product like Ceiling Fans. I will see how many searches "ceiling fan" and "ceiling fans" get. if both are at least 10,000 local searches per month - you know you can get a great deal of traffic daily if you hit page 1 for that product. You don't even have to reach #1 on page 1, just page 1. Chances are good, competition on page 1 going to be steep so just getting on page 1 is the goal, anything beyond that is just icing on the cake.

Also make sure you target some secondary keywords like "top ceiling fans", "best ceiling fans", "hunter ceiling fans" and "ceiling fan reviews". These keywords will get less traffic than the main keywords listed above but these will get you traffic far quicker, and it will convert. Trust me. They will actually convert a lot better than "ceiling fans" will because they are more targeted.

3. Outsource: If you can afford it. Outsource the SEO. Find a good Warrior here who can get your results. Don't be afraid to shop around and tell someone thanks but no thanks. You will never be able to make a great deal of $$$ online if you don't make friends in all the right places. Treat your SEO guy well. He is going to be the guy to get you traffic. It will take a few months but if he's good, you will see your traffic increase on a monthly basis.

4. Write Quality Reviews:
Research the product you'll be promoting a bit. Read customer reviews and see what they are saying (good and bad). Make sure your review is at least 300 words. People will say the longer the better. I think that's crap. Just write a good review and touch on everything you know. As long as it flows and is quality work giving readers value, I will take a 350 word article over a double-vision inducing 1,200 word review any day.

5. Don't be afraid to test. In my humble opinion, there is a great deal of hypocrisy here on the Warrior Forum. Everyone preaches test, test, test some more. Well for fun, go start a thread asking how to test conversions for an Amazon review site. Bet ya don't get back too many helpful answers. Because not too many people know how.

A/B split testing is all the rage. Test version A vs. version B and see which one wins. Seems simple enough and it is. However in order to test for an Amazon, you need to not only apply your tracking code to version A and version B, but you must also attach the tracking code to your conversion page. Only problem with that is Amazon likely will not be open to you inputting your tracking code on their site's stylesheet.

So here's what you need to do. Forget the google webmaster tools, don't pull out your credit card for a monthly membership on visual website optimizer or upload Max A/B plugin.

Just use the 2 simplest tools you have your disposal: Your Orders/Earning Statement on Amazon and Google Analytics.

Let's say you want to test whether that Epic Poem 1200 word review will convert better than your 400 word review. All you need to do is run the 1200 word version for 1 week. I recommend letting at least 100 unique visitors view your review. At the end of the week, see how many sales of that product were made. Do the same with version B of that review.

Make sure both version receive equal amount of traffic. If both versions get 150 visitors; Version A makes 3 sales (of your target product only) but Version B makes 9 sales (once again of your target product), chances are Version B is the better model to follow. This isn't an exact science but it will give an idea. If you want definite answers as to which is better. Let each run for a month. Let them each get 1,000-2,000 visitors each. You will then know which is best.

There you are guys. Don't let anyone tell you that money cannot be made on Amazon. Haters will cite Amazon's "low" commission rate because they don't understand. Those same people either haven't tried promoting Amazon products or just really sucked at doing it and gave up way too soon.

Also guys, right now I'm only getting traffic from organic SERP results. I plan on implementing PPC into my routine so watch out if I get that up and running.

Good luck guys!

Yes, that's a good simple way to test different content sizes and techniques, although I would personally let alot more traffic run through the 2 before making any judgements. Also I think going for keywords with 1000 or so local searches is OK as well, but with these keywords obviously you need to get into top 3 to see any traffic. Congrats on your site

Nice post, the Article should be more than 600 words IMO, its more informative because Amazon details are around a 100 or 200 so people are looking for more, also if you want to put affiliate links then you need alot of valuable content.

Imagine you have 350 words and 5 affiliate links..how would Google look at it? maybe now its fine but by the next update you might be at the bottom of the search engine because it is so noticeable and it doesn't make any sense..350-400 words are small articles

ok why do you need 5 affiliate links? the first 4 didn't do the trick but that last one will surely snag them all.

if you write a 400 word review, no more than 2 links. everyone is happy. as log as the review good and valuable, it will convert

5 was just an example but my idea focuses on how would Google see it in the next update, I think they will look at how much content you provide as one of their factors..I might be wrong but I think new changes are coming soon..it is same as sites that have few pages, sooner or later they will take them out...I also expect them to crack down on the domains that has keywords in them as they have been abused big time, have u seen those domains ranking for good keywords but the quality is $h!t? I feel its gonna happen at some point

Again this is what I think and how I am building my site..1 authority site..

Edit: you need more than 2 links tho, 1 will be for check price..one for reviews and another 2 in the article , 1 in the image..

Good Solid advice there especially the advice to outsource the SEO since that takes a lot of time that could be spent working on making your site better and leaving the SEO to the pro's

Congrats looks like you will have a full time income once your other 2 sites are aged a little.

    kickin it on Amazon

Pretty good stuff there, man. My only gripe is with your keyword research.

It would be MUCH more effective (and easier) to target the specific brand name of whatever product you're promoting.

A keyword like "Minka Aire Concept II" is going to convert A LOT better than "ceiling fans". People searching that term or a term like "Minka Aire Concept II review" are seconds away from buying they just need a little nudge from you.

PLUS you'll rank your pages in a fraction of the time, and won't need anywhere near 10,000 local searches to make a similar amount of money.

Just a little free advice from someone that's glad the forums back up and running.

For most products there will probably be at least 4 or 5 solid product name keywords with a high enough search volume to be profitable.

Remember, you're investment is very small (both time and money) to rank for a keyword like this compared to the recurring income you will be making with very high conversion rates.

Hey thanks for the great posts. I made a little bit of money in December from Amazon but nothing close to $1700.

I have a quick question that is important to know. Is your website geared specifically towards a certain product or keyword or is your site a general broad site for selling pretty much anything on Amazon?

I ask that because there's a debate on how a site gets ranked. People say if you make a domain name specific like www dogfoodreviews com could rank better then www dogs com/dogfoodreviews

So just curious if your site is specific for a type of product or if its more broad to review a broad category of products.

The way I see it www dogfoodreviews com is a broad category of products. There are several brands of dog food to review.

Now, to answer your question . . . they both work.

It just takes a little bit longer to gain authority with a broad category site like the aforementioned dogfoodreviews com.

While a domain name of a specific product name like aimsdogreview com will rank much faster with less effort. However, the type of content and number of products you can promote with such a site is far more limited.

      good question:

my site(s) target a focused niche: say ceiling fans or lightweight backpacks. on that site, i review 10 products. i hope that answers your questions. as far as what method ranks better, not sure.

i'd assume the dogfoodreviews would just because it's basically an exact match domain but could be tough to find it available when you go to buy it. but then again, the dogs.com/dogfoodreviews may do very well as well. however i would strongly recommend doing it:

      dogs.com/dog-food-reviews

Won't outsourcing cost you more money than what you're spending?

I see people losing big on outsourcing because they don't know
the best way to generate the traffic, and even when guided,
it turns out to be huge problems for people.

Isn't a PPC campaign that attracts thousands into webinar the best method?

believe it or not i spent probably $8,000 of my own money to figure out what i was doing. i wasted a great deal of that money just losing focused and trying too quickly to make it rich.

so yes i did waste a lot of money. however now i'm at a place where i am at least making more money than is leaving.

i wish i had done this from there very start.

right now like i said from this site alone i should earn about $850 this month. if i can average that every month it would be fantastic because i pay an SEO guy $400 to work on 2 of my sites: the one making all the money and the other which is currently doing the "dance".

i'd say that's a pretty good trade especially once my second site gains traction and starts earning.

as far as PPC, i am starting to research heavily PPC methods and i plan on using Microsoft Adcenter instead of Google Adwords. Less traffic but i've heard the CPC is cheaper and it could potentially be more targeted.

I do want to add this though. You want to be sure not to put a company name in your domain name. The alternative here is that you can just be more specific about the type of product it is. An example might be healthiestdogfoods.com, or something to that effect.

Great post, and thanks for sharing your ideas - simple and doable as long as warriors take some action. In fact, when I look at all my WSOs and CB products with an Amazon technique, I think yours is as simple and effective as any of those!

I would agree that steering clear of brand marked marked names is advisable. Only had one cease and desist letter so far, so I have tried to cut back on them, reduce the risk. Excellent earnings from only one and a half sites. Where do you get your SEO guy from?
