I have some dummy questions about copyrights and trademarks... not living in US

Hi,

I know a question about copyrights and trademarks is never asked in this forum before

I'm a bit idiot when it comes to legal things, and I'm not US-citizen, living outside of USA.

I will register a domain name, make a logo etc. etc.

But how can I be sure the name I consider to use is not trademarked?

Making similar name is also infringement of trademark rights.

But how much similar is too similar to cause infringement?

How can I be sure that the name I want to use is not so similar to make an infringement?

I heard that in US one need to register manually to get copyrights, right?

Where do I register trademarks and copyrights of my domain name, logo, website design, content, etc. and how much all these things cost?

In short: I need to know everything a dummy internet marketer (or online entrepreneur) needs to know about trademarks and copyrights.

You can look up US trademarks here

    Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS)

You can apply for a trademark at the United States Patent and Trademark Office
You don't need to apply for copyrights for content. Your content is copyrighted when you write it. Same with design (if it's original) of your website, logo, etc. Your logo would be submitted along with your word mark to the Trademark Office if you apply for a trademark.

From what I've heard you should steer clear from any domains with trademarks/brands,etc. Why cause the headache if an issue arises?

I'm not a guru but it's common sense

By going to the link Suzanne posted and checking to see if the term is trademarked. That is the answer.

For images, you can sometimes find the source using tineye.com.

ROMARIN looks up international trademarks. It's important to realize the US is not the only country where trademarks can be filed.

As I know, similar names can infringe trademark, right?

But how much similar is too similar?

E.g. Ryan Deiss owns Digital Marketer.

What if I want to use a name something like "Digital Marketer Tower", or "Pro Digital Marketer"?
