Having 2 paypal acccounts: Personal & Business

Hi I'm new here.

Last month I read in paypal's faq's that one person can have 2 accounts, one personal and one business. I have a premier account and also want to open up a personal account since I just launched my own business and want to keep my money separate.

Does anyone know how to get this done? I swear I've looked all around paypal's site and I can't figure out how to add a personal account. Do I have to call them to set this up or can I simply get this done online? I'm hoping someone else has experience doing this to point me in the right direction. Thanks.

  • You simply create a new paypal account and set your account type to 'personal' - as for the account you currently have, change it to a business account.

That's all there is to it!
  • You're not allowed to have 2 paypal accounts with two separate emails. That's against paypal's rules. It has to be 2 accounts on the same email account.

    • Yeah and be carefull about breaking paypal's rules. They can easily lock money in your account for months based on anything. Had it happen numerous times, often for not breaking any rules but just selling too much stuff during the holidays.

    • That has always been my understanding as well. I wouldn't push it with 2 paypal accounts.
    • I have one Paypal account for two different businesses, and two different bank accounts to transfer the earnings into, according which business the revenue corresponds to. Works for me and is easy to keep straight because I only use Paypal as a kind of backup payment system when people prefer not to use the usual other payment route.

Perhaps it would be possible to do the same for both personal and business expenses.

  • I and many friends of mine have several paypal accounts. One each personal and one each for each separate business entity.

As with any business, we have separate urls, corp. structures, email addresses, bank accounts and physical addresses.

You cannot have more than one personal and one business account with anything the same like email, physical address or bank acct. etc.

To set up the two accounts, go into paypal and create an account and mark it as personal.

Then once that is done. Go into paypal again and create an account again and mark it as business and go through all the verifications steps. It is really that easy.
  • I would suggest getting in touch with their customer support and having them walk you through it if you are unsure.

    • I suggest you to give them a call... Their support is cool and they gonna help you... Because if you do anything against their TOS then in future you might loose your hard cash with sorrows...

      All the best

      This is just wrong.

It also breaches PayPal's terms of service. You can't use someone else's account. Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, here, but both the claims made in your post are pure misinformation.

PayPal's difficult enough to deal with, without this sort of thing as an added hazard. People wishing to use PayPal's services should read the TOS carefully for themselves.

  • So it is ok, to use a 2nd address, bank account and set up a 2nd personal account?
  • Set up one as a business. Use whatever your setup is (sole proprieter, LLC, etc).

Then you have 2 legitimate accounts with no problem

    • thetrafficguy is right.... Have one in business name and 2nd in personal name.... and that's it...

Don't try to use same card and same bank for both accounts.... You need business bank account for business account and credit card in business name or your own name but not the same you are using on personal account and you are ready to go

      Cheers
  • Does PAYPAL put a hold on your funds once you hit a certain threshold? I am hoping that there isn't some long drawn out process once you hit $1k as an example and it holds up your profit for 2 weeks like they do when you deal with EBay.
  • Paypal CAN put a hold on your funds if it deems so.

If you make or transfer a lot of money or anything they find suspicious then they can place a hold on it for a couple days or awhile.

    Its pretty common.

But once you have a good amount of reputation your chances of it happening go way down.
  • You can have personal and a buisiness account with different emails.

You can also add multiple emails to the same account. Meaning you can have people pay you at xxxxx@blabla .com and xxx22@blala .com and the money will actually go into the same account.

I use both of these and paypal states this on their site that both are ok to do. As stated before you cant however use multiple names.
  • That's a shame, as I want a Euro, USD and Singapore Dollars accounts.
  • You can add several different email names to the same account for paypal.
  • If you are in doubt why not contact PayPal support and ask them to guide you through? They are the ones that can provide you the best answer.
  • Buddy,

You can call up paypal customer care in US via skype for FREE by dialing their number +18882211161 and check it out for yourself by talking to their customer care representative.

    I hope that would help...

  • I have a premier account and can't upgrade it to business account. Make sure you choose the right account type. Contact their support first is the best choice.
  • I distinctly remember reading in Paypal's TOS that it's ok to have one personal account and one premier/business account. So that should be fine but no more than that.

    But check for yourself...
  • In legal terms you are one entity and a legally registered business is a separate entity and each one can have 2 or more different PayPal accounts with different names, emails, addresses, etc but in both PayPal accounts the money would go to you...
