Personally I put in my affiliate links even before the site is indexed by google and then I keep adding the backlinks until I get my desired results.
If the on site SEO is properly handled, just keep adding backlinks the site would be back before you know it.
I've heard people wait but thats just how I do it.

The kick didn't have to be because of the affiliate links. If you get it on first page in no time, you might experience some kicks. If the website is an authority website (at least you want to make it so), I would wait for about a month and if the website remains on the first page, then I would put aff. links on the website.

But if you don't care much about the website (not an authority website) I would leave the links there and try to build some quality and relevant backlinks from articles on web 2.0s.

I think that this time it's really hard to say and everyone would suggest you something else.

Most of my sites will get onto the first page of Big G right away, then lose position until I build more backlinks. It is a normal thing for a new site, especially with the keyword in domain name (especially if EMD) to get ranked on 1st page of SERP fast, then lose position for awhile.

So, I highly doubt if changing your theme or adding affiliate links had anything to do with it.

In all my tests I've never seen any negative effects from adding affiliate links. Just make sure that you cloak and nofollow them and you should be fine.

The sudden drop in rank is far more likely to have beeen caused by your backlinking activity. Building too many or the wrong kind of links too quickly can often result in your site being shot down, but it should bounce back if you keep building high quality links slowly.

The most effective links at the moment in my experience are bookmarks (both dofollow AND nofollow), blog networks and high PR home page networks.

Stay away from spammy backlinks like mass forum profiles and blog comments and don't bother with an indexing system as I've always found these to be a massive waste of time and money.

In general, you always want to make your backlinking look as natural as possible.

Check the theme as well. Some themes are not particularly spider-friendly. Try leaving the affiliate links but going back to the theme that got you ranked.

You want to put affiliate links right away so you do not miss out on any sales. You can use a subtle method such as Highlighting certain words and linking them to your url. Even if your site is not at the top right now, you will still be making sales if people are visiting it. You can, in the meantime continue to use back-links to drive traffic and as long as you have an opt in page, you will also be building your list so all will not be lost.

If it is non adsense links then you can put them straightaway from what i have been learning on best practices. If you do Adsense then it makes sense to wait a little bit as google has been getting quite strict on this aspect lately..Also the initial higher ranking could be duw to exact domain match etc... but with all the panda ranking going it will help if you can get social media and web 2 properties linked back with related content.

sounds like it's because you changed the theme. completing changing your HTML structure like that is SEO suicide. On top of that, your site is brand new so some dancing is to be expected

I added affiliate links to my blog the day it was launched. I did not know that was a bad thing? I ranked in google quickly (although not as high now) and I am ranked well on yahoo & bing.

I placed all my afilliate links on my blog even before I launched because I didn't want regular visitors to get smacked with them one day and be like "what the heck."

      People notice big changes.

Are you putting your direct links or cloaking the links? You need to cloak the links.

For example, if you promoting a "Widget" ...instead of having your direct clickbank link in link create a folder on your server like this yoursite.com/widget - In the widget folder use a simple redirect script that will redirect to the clickbank link.

    Hope that helps

I add affiliate links asap. No need to wait.

Frankly if I add 30 or 40 articles I certainly don't care to go back to them and add affiliate links. I prefer finishing a post, hit publish, and call it a day. The only time I go back and modify a post is when new information needs to be added or existing info revised.

Placing your affiliate links in from the beginning for a review site is very important. You want to get the site adjusted and ranked with the links. Your website shouldn't of jumped that low with placing links in your website but you should be able to get your website ranked a bit higher still though.

But, I recommend placing your affiliate links in the site from the site.
