Hey,
Do people still make good money on Facebook?
I made about $15,000 with Facebook in 2011 with the simple viral websites (Like/Share/Comment to see content).
But Facebook is making it harder and harder now, they have now better system to detect spam-accounts.

When I post a link on a popular wall why I only get 1/2 clicks? :O this was a year ago so much easier lol.

I went from average $2.500/month to nothing now ;(

I'm the only one? If you can give me some tips about getting viral via Facebook please share it with me.

Thanks for reading

I don't make much on Facebook but I still have an active following on most of my groups. I don't think Facebook is dying. It is changing and we just need to learn to change with it. People still love good quality content and are happy to share it in my experience.

      • No ways is Facebook dying. I'm still diving into this market as I've always focused on SEO up until now, but there is no way it is dead. With that many viewers and all those different segments, it is a marketers paradise.

I'm sorry to say that many people on my FaceBook friends list are not supportive of what I do, and quite honestly some of them come off as slackers who don't wanna learn how to make money. I've tried to help a few people out but they rather talk about the latest party and Burning man. If you're on my FB list I'm not talking about you! lol. I"m talking about my friends that I've known for a long time.

I love Facebook but it seems to be more of the cyber cafe where everyone comes to do nothing. I'm all about hustling and helping me, and others out. Unfortunately I don't feel that vibe in Facebook. And for me it's not even about the money, it's more about working together. Yep. Go figure.

Why would you be targeting your face book friends, people you say you've known for a long time, why would they be interested in your IM endeavours?

FB wasn't originally intended for marketing, it's a place where folks like to hang out, do nothing and chat.

I don't use FB for marketing (not my personal account anyway), its a place where I meet up with my far flung family and friends, we chat and hang out, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Why? Because most people are complaining about the economy and how broke they are. I've made websites that make money and even offered them to people for free and yet they don't even want to get started.

And also my market it's not just in the "I.M." market. You'd think others would support something good that you are doing. But those people are just are few in between... that's why the ones that do will get plenty of good vibes from me.

I've been at the bottom and I've been at the top - all I can say is... if you're there for me rooting on the sidelines today (just like I would be for you if we were even associates) then I won't forget about you ever.

My definition of friends is being your cheerleader when it comes to your dreams. =)

Well of course they are, complaining about the economy n stuff, but the point I was trying to make (obviously not very well), was that just cos people like you and me enjoy doing stuff online, its not everyone's cup of tea, and lets face it lots of people like to moan about stuff but are just too idle to get off their ass and do something about it.

Been there and done it, tried showing a few of my family n friends how to make money online years ago and because it involved a learning curve etc they didn't want to know. Your just flogging a dead horse unfortunately trying to get em interested.

I very much like your definition of friends BTW

I feel the same way Kim, I do have fan pages and business accounts but my personal page is just for talking and keeping in touch. I wouldn't walk into their living rooms trying to sell them on stuff, so why would I do it online?

If someone ASKS me about a business opp or a product I sell then that's different.

Facebook behavior as avatar 1 said....

But Facebook is making it harder and harder now, they have now better system to detect spam-accounts.

When I post a link on a popular wall why I only get 1/2 clicks? :O this was a year ago so much easier lol.
and secondly is the fact that most users of facebook now can differentiate their selves between spammers and legit users.....

So its better to flow with facebook policies and tos....

    All the best

Seems to me that Facebook evolved and you didn't. Their targeting features make it, without a doubt, one of the best marketing platforms in the world.

For example, say I want to target:

males >> 21 to 25 >> interested in >> Video Games >> Specifically World of Warcraft >> that are College educated >> and claim to have $XX,XXX year income.

What did I just do? I targeted the EXACT audience I needed for a certain affiliate program of mine.

Gone are the days of general ads. With Facebook's targeting features I can talk to individuals by the dozens, instead of generally by the thousands. Which do you think works better?

Facebook is social networking site FIRST! So don't be surprised if people don't respond to your marketing ploys.

If you intend on promoting using Facebook stick with Fan Pages and stay away from Personal Profiles.

Spamming the number one social network in the world shouldn't be easy! Why would you think others here would agree with your logic?

Facebook wants you to pay for advertising on there site. You won't generate any real income through facebook. Only if your offering a product that is irresistable. In the end facebook makes money for facebook. If you are able to get some benefit from that then you've done well.

I've had pretty good results with Facebook but the game is evolving quickly. Taking some script that 200 other people are already using isn't going to work any longer. Being a hacker / programmer and finding out new exploits and not sharing them is the key.

Facebook has been getting lots of attention and with around 600 milion users are so no way they are going to go anywhere. Of course with they competing almost directly with google for PPC stuff, they will become more careful on getting related searches going and hence some roadblocks for the marketers, but as long as you are building authority sites, getting social media interaction going in true saense of the way you should manage a good chink of $$ with FB anyday.

Facebook is definitely not dying. But any marketing has to be changed from time to time to have high conversion. I hope I don't offend you when I say this but it sounds a bit like you have been spamming. You say this yourself in your post: "But Facebook is making it harder and harder now, they have now better system to detect spam-accounts"

If you are simply making spammy posts to walls - yes that method is definitely dying - it's not facebook.

My suggegst is to use fb ppc to drive traffic that are actually interested in what you have. I'm killing it right now and getting clicks for as low as 9 cents.

    Good luck - Pat

Nothing can be further from the truth. Facebook marketing is not at all dying! Nearing approx. 1 billion users.... Facebook is one of the most essential marketing tools of these age.

But we need to understand the way it works.

Our personal profile is not meant to be business oriented (though many do use it cleverly enough). Its our Fan pages that is the business side of FB. But spamming it with our affiliate links is the last thing we want to do. We have to keep in mind that FB was created to be social network. Though we can sell in our Fan pages, bombarding it with sales pitches its not at all recommended though. The main purpose is to give value and build some strong relationships with your prospects or clients. It should be used to build our list of prospects interested in our niche. The Like button is a powerful tool if used properly. Though FB has now become quite strict with its rules & regulation, but it actually wants us to use our Fan pages for our marketing the right way.

        Engaging and Related
        post are the key.

Do not just post something like "I love this image..LOLZ" . Rather try to engage your audience with open ended questions like "What do you think about this ______ ?". This will make your fans interactive and thus more engaging.

Also make it a point to be as related to your niche as possible. For example, DO NOT post your pictures from your last night's party bash on your fan page. Your fans are not interested in how many bottles of beer you got down. No no no!! Those are for your personal profile where you have your friends and family lined up. In your fan page, yours fans are here for a reason. They are here because they are interested in your subject and they want to know more about it! Give them what they want and they will give you in return.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIP ==> This is the key factor in your Facebook marketing.

        Hope that helps...

        I agree with this.

I remember those days when google would just let you outright link to affiliates pages for like 2 cents. LOL. ha ha. Well gone are those days.

Google is very strict and realised it had problems after a while.

Now facebook is sort of become the victim of its own PPC success also, so the trend will continue. Not much you can do about it, but read their rules, adapt and see how you can use it to your advantage.

Yes it might take a bit of work, however, 15k loss of your business is quite a bit, and that money can be leveaged on other things.

SO good luck, and god speed to you

Facebook isn't dying. If anything it is getting strong as i come across more and more website that are using facebook instead of having people sign up for their sites. Facebook is here to stay, so develop a technique that will work, even if you have to try 1,000 different ways.
