Could someone direct me to a site/video explaining step by step instruction on how to take my domain name from namecheap and add hosting from hostgator and instal wordpress. I think i have the hosting ok but i can make wordpress work it always comes with an error. Thanks

    On my blog under 'videos' I have free video tutorials showing you how to do it all. (click my signature link)

    It is quite tricky the first few times you do it.

    Here are a couple of videos that should be able to help you out:


    They are for installing Wordpress with Hostgator tools. You can find numerous other similar videos on YouTube.

    Transferring your domain name to Hostgator is just a matter of reconfiguring the name servers at Namecheap, and I'm sure they can provide instruction on that.

    I get the exact same error using a namecheap.com domain on hostgator hosting... I get an error when I install WP with Fantastico. The thing is that you (for some reason) have to install this manually. It's not hard if you have some experience with FTP programs and using MySQL... if NOT, it's a little tricky. But if you know your way around cuteFTP and mySQL then you just download wordpress from the .org site, upload the whole(?) package to the server using FTP and then enter the database credentials.. it's quickly done.

    As Wilton said, make sure your name servers on namecheap are modified to point to hostgator.

      Thanks for all the help but i still can figure it out. Quickinstall and fantastico delux say it fine and go check your site but when i look there is no wordpress

    You don't need to transfer the the domain name from namecheap to hostgator, you can simply keep it at namecheap and actually this is usually recommended.

    Simply log into namecheap and change the nameservers to Hostgators then once those are resolving fine you can install wordpress rather easily.

    In Namecheap, you change the nameservers to your Hostgator nameservers. That's all you do with the domain.

    In your Hostgator cpanel, scroll down to the Fantastico icon and click on that and then click on Wordpress and choose New install and just follow the instructions from there.
