URL Help

Good evening warriors! (relative),

after failing last year i feel disappointment and still have the burning itch to succeed at IM and decided to give it another shot! However enough about me, my reason for posting lies with URLs so without further delay:
does it matter about the domain, more specifically will a .co rank as well as a .com (say the .com was taken)

I'm sorry for the thread about this but a quick search provided no success. Also if anyone has a decent guide to URLs it would be greatly appreciated if you could share it, I'm sure it will help more than me.

Thanks
Jordan

  • .com will hold more weight than .co. - .org and .net are also top tier. However, that's not to say that keyword rich domain names with other suffixes won't work well. But to answer your question, yourkeyword.com will hold more weight than yourkeyword.co - All other things being equal.

.co is treated as a top level domain by Google. All top level domains hold equal weight contrary to popular belief. It's the SEO that you do that gives you position in the serps, not the extension.
  • In my experience it is just as easy to rank a .co as a .com - for SEO it makes no difference. But if you are planning to sell the site at some time, then top level domains, and particularly a .com domain, will be more valuable.
  • thank you very much, i allways though .com > .co but apparently not. This cleared things up lots. Thanks again
  • Yup they should all rank the same.

But if you must get a .com domain, you can simply add hyphens "-" to the name.

It won't affect SEO one bit.
