Becoming a Successful Internet Marketer, In highschool...

Fellow Warriors,
I have searched this forum for a newbies section so I didn't have to bother the experts, but unfortunately there is no section. I know very, very little about this business, but trust me, I want to learn. no, NEED is a better way of putting it.

I won't bore you any longer. My question is, where do I start? Where can i go to learn about Internet Marketing? Where do i learn how to perform SEO, CPA, etc.? From the experts who struggled through the first couple years of Internet marketing, point me in the right direction. I think this might just be the ideal business for me.

Additional Information
For what it's worth, I am a junior in high school with limited resources. I can't just make Internet marketing my entire life quite yet. I'd like this to be my main form of income, and if not, pay my way through college. With that said I am extremely eager to get started.

Thanks so much,
Pete

I did what you are trying to do some 16 years ago. There is no easy or single piece of advice I can give you. You will likely struggle for a good while before things start to "click" for you.

    My advice.

    1. Don't buy stuff, and surely don't buy a single product that promises to show you how to make money quickly or easily. That just doesn't exist. Anyone selling you that dream is scamming you to fill their pockets. Take note, and stay away from anyone who makes those promises. A lot of folks in the "how to internet marketing" industry prey on newbies like you.

    2. use the search function on this site and google. get ready to spend a couple hundred hours building a base of knowledge to build your IM (internet marketing) career on.

    3. forget overnight success and think about building a income for the long haul.

I know my advice is not what you want to hear, but its the truth.

Thanks so much for the advice, i know it wont come quickly and i am very aware of the fact that it will take time. Also thanks for the warnings, haha i wasn't planning on doing anything mentioned in point number one but I'm really happy to see that there are people out there who care. And i appreciate the advice, and i knew this sort of thing was coming so no worries. =]

In my opinion you'd do best to spend your "IM time" each day slowly building an authority site, while building a list at the same time.

BUT...While you're as young as you are, the best possible thing you can do is maximize your opportunities so that you have options, and the best way to do that is to get good grades- as cliche as that sounds. With a high enough GPA, college can be free.

Don't let your grades slip because you're chasing the dream of internet riches- give yourself 2 hours a day max to work on a site or whatever you decide to do internet wise- but keep your priorities straight.

I know your going to look at this and shake your head when you say this but I'm sorry, what is an authority site? And what do you mean building a list? When i said newbie, i meant it.

As for my grades, I maintain about a 3.95 GPA, a long with being a member of NHS and the captain of my high school varsity and club soccer team. So i'm great at managing my time.

      Thanks so much

Good for you- a GPA like that will make a lot of things easier for you.

An authority site is a large site with a lot of content and articles on it about one topic. For example, allrecipes is an authority site on recipes. ESPN is an authority site on sports.

Those are the epitome of authority sites- you don't need to have a site anywhere near that big to earn good money from a site- I'm just saying you'll get the best results from dedicating your time and focus to one thing instead of trying a bunch of different methods or schemes. You want to build something a resource that a lot of people will find helpful, and will attract traffic to itself for a long time because it's a great resource.

Building a list is getting people on your newsletter list so that you have a list of email addresses, that way you have traffic on tap for updates, when you publish new content, or when you want to promote a product or sell something.

Got it. What I was trying to do in the first place was to make money off of IM. I wanted to tap into this extraordinary market in order to make money by using the techniques of SEO, CPA, etc., to help other businesses and websites. Is that dumb? Am i way off track? Isn't that how these people who claim they've made 300k in profits make there money? Because I really don't have an idea for an authority site.

          Your help is greatly appreciated,
          Pete

          Pete,
you want to do a few things... so here's a list for newbies i would reccomend. Your not going to get rich or make oodles of money over night. It takes time to learn...but i wish someone would have given me a target list similar to what i am going to post below for you... Good Luck

You want to get good at the following items...because if you do you can always generate traffic... Traffic = Eyeballs/Prospects = Income

          - Learn how to build a Wordpress site, not outsource do it yourself... This is a 1 to 2 month curve here to get good at it.

          - Learn to do amazing Keyword Research, these keywords are the hidden gold out there... EXAMPLE: Today i found an Exact Domain Match keyword for a phrase getting 64,000 exact searches a month with a Cost per click or CPC of $2.16 and it will be easy to Rank #1 in the search engines for. This means Money with several ways to monetize it.

          - Start studying the Art of SEO - If you can learn this you now have the skills to achieve anything.

If you can build a site (Authority or Niche Sites), do the keyword research then provide SEO to it... You can right your own ticket here. Everything else you can learn over time... but those 3 skills IMHO are the Foundation for any good IM Business.

          Best of Luck...

Congrats for taking action at such a young age. I wish I had thought like that in high school.
The best place is right here on this forum. You will be amazed what you can learn, just by reading and spending time on this forum.

My advice would be to use the time actively though. I.e. research stuff that will build your business, rather then just surfing around.

    All the best.

What are you looking to make 1 year from right now with "this"?
What are the things you KNOW you have to do?
What are the investments you MUST have and how do you afford them?
Who can help you along the way? (this forum, me)

Dude, I love the fact you are clearly a smart guy, and someone the IM world would love to have. Congratulations on making the biggest step. Coming here, and asking a question. It takes balls for someone your age to publicly post for help.

I respect that. Answer me those questions, and we can move forward

Before i start I'd like to thank the posts before you because i wrote down your advice! It's just hard to reply to everyone haha.

Now, Rlinken. One year from now i want to have a SOLID basis of information of the do's, don'ts, ins, and outs of the IM world. I'd like to have some sort of authority site, and i'd love to start making a little money. But money will come with hard work and knowledge, so money is not first on my list.

I know i have to learn a TON of SEO, CPA, and other types of IM information. I know i have to build a contact list, and i know i have to network, and build a site.

As for the investments I'm not sure. Very blunt and i probably look dumb, but it's the truth.

Those who can help me are, like you said, this forum. Also, I have a connection to an SEO guy in Florida who does really well. But I'm not approaching him until i have a better understanding of IM. Other than that I'm lost. I am hoping for someone to steer me in the right direction for where to start researching and building a knowledge of IM.

        Thanks so much

    What's up Pete!

It's nice to see other young marketers here. I just graduated from high school, so we must only be a couple of years apart. When I first started, I did A LOT of reading around the Warrior Forum. I also bought my fair share of WSO's and to be honest, the free reading around WF was a lot more valuable. Stay away from the WSO section for now, until you get the jist of what Internet Marketing is.

The best advice I can give you now, is to learn, just like you are in school. Internet Marketing is very similar to school. You have to study, you have "homework" to do. The only difference is that instead of a letter for your hard work, you get something a lot more valuable.

Here, I'll give you a little checklist:
    • Take a look through every section in the Warrior Forum
    • Understand what each field of Internet Marketing does
    • Choose one that sounds the best to you (notice I said best, not easiest)
    • READ! Read through that section... (Lots of value)
    • Make threads in that section if you have any questions, people will help
    • After you get the hang of everything, come up with a business plan, always put it on paper
    • ACTION ACTION ACTION!!!!!

If you have ANY questions, or if you don't understand anything that I said above, feel free to contact me. I see you can't PM.

    Email: JDThelp@Gmail.com

Good that you're starting early so you don't have to run into the job problems we're experiencing these days.

Learn what you can. If you're not quite 18, however, I'm not sure what affiliate networks will allow you to join. Some may not even check.

I would definitely work on getting a PayPal Premier or Business Account. They are free. A lot of people use PayPal for online payments. But I don't know what the age limitations are on there. You'll have to check.

But there's nothing wrong with learning. You may want to get your feet wet with Triond, Hubpages or Squidoo.

    Little advice from me:

join CPA network, where you can get success. Read CPA section in warrior forum you will find lot of information regarding CPA Network to earn handsome amount of income.
Stay away from clickbank, Cj etc until you have enough knowledge about SEO.

    Gud luck

Don't listen to these fools! if you wanna make money online and want to ever do it as a career,, you can skip a whole lotta headache by learning product development.

It's by FAR the fastest way to make good money online. And YES,, all you people out there,, and you newbies,,, it's always good to know all you can about every aspect of internet marketing.

Someday, if you choose to take the path and start from the very beginning, you will come to a point when you have that moment when you realize what ACTUALLY makes money and you'll wish you'd have been doing that all along. I call it the ah ha!! moment.

And, developing your own product is the best way. And you can do it in ANY niche,, not just the Internet Marketing niche. People tend to think that that is the only niche to develop products around. You'll hear about people talking about how their successful in niches that nobody bothers to take a look at.

Keep an open mind when it comes to choosing a niche and learn to become a product developer. Get courses on the matter.

I'm no fool. Have you read through the responses? Many of us told him to read, to learn IM. If you skip everything and learn how to write a product, what would the product be about if you know nothing else? I guess if you create a product about creating a product that would work... But what's next?

Learning (knowledge) is the key to everything. The second part is putting the key into the door and turning it, but he doesn't have the key yet.

Pjkem - Product Creation is a good route to go, but I would HIGHLY suggest that you still follow my post and LEARN first. You will have a much easier time creating products.

p.s. one more thing,,, Don't rush TOO fast. A lot of beginner marketers try to go too fast (including myself) and mess it all up.

Take your time. It's better to go a little slower and get it right than to waste your time getting it wrong. Believe me,, I've jammed out sites and products only to have them fail because I didn't put the time into doing it right.

I'm sure many others on here can say the same thing. You don't have to go slow,, you can go fast,, just make sure that all the elements are right.

Make sure all the pieces fit,,,
make sure all you ducks are in a row,,
make sure ya aren't forgetting anything,,,
    don't half ass it,,,

Get it right, and this online marketing thing can be yours,,,, the world is yours Tony

Am I wrong?

I agree. I guess I just misunderstood what you were saying and kind of took offense to the "fool" thing. People building niches don't know everything about that niche... but they know SOMETHING. Something usually isn't good enough, you have to know something that most people don't, that's where the learning part of product creation comes into play. But I see that when you said product creation, you implied learning also.

      Congrats on your 200th post!

Oh yes, I'm a perpetual learner. I buy new courses every week. Or daily if I can learn something new. I myself am always looking to learn and learn and learn.

That's the thing with the internet,, it's always changing and as marketers, we need to keep up witht he times. But!!! There will always be the basic structures of internet marketing that withstand the tests of time and they are the tactics that will always work and these are the tactics and formulas that ALL marketers need to know.

So,, young Luke Skywalker,,, never stop the quest to learn and advance yourself further in this everchanging world we know as,,,,,,, IM'ing,, for we stand together here in this forum as,,,,, IM'ers

Build one authority website at first... focus on keywords that will bring many visitors. Get good, quality content written (can be done for you) and focus on actually giving your visitors something to come back for or atleast stay on your site for. Get an autoresponder and start build a list, have a product on your website that people can buy or offer a service to them.

You should build two lists, one for those who buy from you and one for those who just wants a freebie. There is a huge difference.

Also, focus on this website alone. Do one thing at a time, don't rush it. Write good content and give value to your visitors!

Awesome to see more and more young guns in this business.

Lots of good opinions so far. But, one important thing which could help you a lot since you're not that expierenced already is, Offline Marketing.

The good thing about Offline Marketing is that you learn to be confronted with different situations, different people and most important, you learn how to take action.

There is heaps of valuable information in the Offline Marketing section on here.

Have fun mate, Internet Marketing never gets boring!

There are many places on the Internet where you can learn internet marketing and about making money online in general. This forum is a great starting point - if you are "resourceful" and don't mind spending a few hours each day searching through the forum topics of your interest, this is a great place to learn.

Don't forget to use the search button feature, it's very likely any question you have or may have in the future has already been posted on here, so make sure to check first before asking.

Also, the War Room is an awesome investment, both for starting and experienced marketers. It is filled with free information worth gold.

Then, buying WSO is also a way, but my humble opinion is, most of the info contained in WSOs is somewhere on the Internet and can be gotten for free. Just don't be lazy trying to learn and master this game.

Then there are also other internet marketing forums. Once you have started focusing on a particular aspect of marketing (for example SEO), learn just that and don't skip to anything else until you master it and get results you can be satisfied with.

I agree with others that it will take many hours of learning and implementing before you start to connect the dots. The nice thing about that is you will see from the ground up how it all works as opposed to walking in with a massive budget where you just start blowing cash without any real knowledge. Also, if you start now, you could be making some good money by the time you are in your late teens which would be the perfect foundation to kill it when you decide to go full time.

You should get a Blogger.com blog, through Adsense and Clickbank affiliate links, and post on your blog frequently. Generate traffic with forum marketing, video marketing, and article marketing. Plus submit your blog to the blog directories and your RSS feed to the RSS directories. You can do all of this for free.

Hello Pete I'm 17 and in High School. I've been learning since I was in 7th grade, but I got serious in my Junior year. I'm not embarrassed to say ive spent $3,000, because everything that I've spent I've gained in knowledge. One thing I can say from teen-to-teen is that the business bank account is not your own, so don't blow your earnings.
Just to give you some insight, my business model is based on outsourcing. I made landing pages with MaxLanding and promote individual CPA offers with high traffic keywords. The mos important thing is to outsource.

    Research, research & more research!

There are plenty of good resources on the web for IM.
I started learning this way, just finding my way around.

Familiarise yourself with this forum and get to know who the experienced people are. There are some great WSO's that I have learn't so much from, which weren't very expensive.

Ask plenty of questions, there will always be helpful advice on here as everybody has started somewhere.

The one thing you can't do though is rush. Take your time, build slowly, educate yourself, take action and I'm sure success will come your way.

    Thanks so much,
    Pete

    Hey Pete,

Glad to hear you are taking initiative in getting a career path even while still in school. That's a great start in itself.

WF is a great place to start. Learn as much as you can about the different aspects of internet marketing. Research how different marketers are making money and the techniques they used to do it. Don't spend any money on products claiming to get you rich quick. IM takes time to learn and time to start generating good return. Whatever you do, make sure you stick with it. It is easy to become discouraged and give up in the early stages.

Take action, stick with it, learn as you go, and never give up. Good luck to you!

Good for you on all fronts...

If I were you I'd consider searching for a coach through your next summer vacation where you can really put the time into learning the ropes. From there it will help you focus and use the few precious hours you will have per week to move in the right direction.

I wish I had found IM in high school like you... best of luck!

I know exactly how you feel! Starting my IM career at the age of 14 I have been through a huge amount.

When you're so young people don't want to listen to you or even help you because they still think you are a kid.

I have one huge piece of advice for you, never let anybody put you down. Don't let anybody put you off chasing your dream. If I had, I wouldn't be on this forum typing this message to you right now. I wanted to quit ALL THE TIME, so will you. But don't. One day it will get better. Thankfully I am at a point now where some might consider me 'successful' although I will never consider myself this because I am always going to have goals and until I reach every goal I can't happily say that I have succeded.

Anyway, if you need any extra help, don't hesitate to PM me. I will help you.

Good for you - taking on the initiative to start learning now.

There is not much I would change about my past. But if I would have known about internet marketing when I was in high school, you bet that would be the one thing I would change and started this business many years ago.

Consider this: you are going back to school. This is learning a new career. When you take your "lab", some things work and others won't work. Change them. Keep changing until you find what works.

Another small bit of advice - find something you enjoy. Life is way too short to be doing something you're not happy doing.

I hope my son has the same enthusiasm as you do and follows in his momma's footsteps.

    I wish you great success.

As a 14 year old here on the Warrior Forum, I was in your situation last year.

I can't stress this.. TAKE ONE OPTION AND WORK AT IT, TILL IT WORKS

Let's say you want to be a Coder, you need to stick to that till you feel sick fro reading so much and that you see if and else statements in your eyes.

My advice, would be read up on one subject of IM you like, Let's say Amazon/Clickbanks. Create a Review site and keep on working on it, now when your making some cash. Flip it, Boom! Do this 365 Days a Year and your sorted.

Trust me, If I knew this last year I would of earned a hell lot more.

Email Me@ Thefarcry118@gmail.com , I know what's it's like to be your age, as I'm 14 and can hopefully help you a lot.
