I am starting my first niche blog. I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to what free wordpress theme I should use. I am going to try to answer all your questions.

I want to monetize the site with Adsense and Amazon or Clickbank.

I will be writing all my own content. What I am looking for is recommendations on the theme and the plugins that are essential in starting.

Also, if you have any recommendation as to outsourcing tasks like link building the information of your source would be great (if you want to share).

Any other advice that you seem fit for someone who is finally taking action to get started in this world of IM.

My advice is to go for a theme that has a mobile option too. This is a must these days since you can get thousands of new visitors to your site from mobiles.

With that said, make sure your theme is clean and easy to navigate.

You can also use a regular theme and install adsense plugin that rotate ads (you can find a lot of does) . But i think it's better to buy a theme, from my expirience the ones that are free are not working very well and you spend more time on changing and trying differnet themes. u can also try a theme that comes with a lot of useful plugins, like authoritypro.com

In my opinion, I think you should create your own theme because it will suit you own perferences, and no one else knows more about your own perferences is yourself. The program that I used for my niche sites is called artisteer. It is quite simple and the learning curve for making your own theme might be roughly 1 hr but the outcome is worth it big time.

True, always better that way...if money is no object.

This is the issue. Money is an object. So, I gather that paid is the best way, but there has to be a free option. Maybe I can go over to the War Room and find one that is good enough.

There are thousands of free themes. The vast majority of them look like free themes. In addition, free themes can contain malware or spammy links, so you'll have to make sure any free theme you choose doesn't have this.

Woo themes has some free themes you might want to look at. They will at least be free of malware.

One good option may be to spend a little time working on your own theme. Start with a theme framework such as "Thematic". It gives you a blank canvas to use as the starting point while taking care of a lot of the coding for the theme. You can then add customization and come up with something unique and customized to your needs.. you just need to spend a little time on it. You need either time or money to spend... if you don't have either.. then....
