Which google should I rank for?

Hey there, I have a site that is made for Indian audience so my question is should I focus on ranking on first page of google.co.in since it is Indian audience or should I try to rank for google.com as from many years people are use to type google.com.

From my experience I don't think there is a big difference. If your expected visitors are from India, the site will rank about the same position in the both versions of Google. Most probably it won't be exactly the same but there won't be a big discrepancy either.

If it's an Indian audience, then obviously try to rank it on google.co.in

Remember that if you are outside the US, if you type in google.com, you will get automatically redirected to the Google version for your country that you are searching from.

Absolutely this is what I expect, so why there is a difference in the rankings?

You can change this option immediately from the Google's home page if you want but I suppose most people won't do it.

If your audience is from India, then ranking on google.co.in is better and that is what you need to target.

Heres a few considerations that I would take into account.

    1. Language. What language is the site in? English is a secondary language in India.

    2. Currency. Will you be selling anything? If so, what currency?

    3. Search volume. Have a look within the GKT. I bet you the search volume for .com and .com.in is SIGNIFICANTLY different.

Certainly dont just 'assume' that your search placement positioning will be the same for Google.com and Google.com.in.

I sell numerous products within both Australia and the global marketplace, and my rankings for identical search terms vary big time.

      1. Still people here prefer sites in English rather than Hindi.
      2. Indian Rupees.
      3. Already Checked.

Have you considered two separate sites?

I know this may not be applicable in all cases, but chances are, if you have a product to sell, you can quickly and easily leverage the one site to fit both markets.

    Might be something to consider.

BTW - I would definitely focus on the .com.in initially, given that you're selling in Indian currency.

I don't get it. You rank #2 in .co.in, and nowhere in .com; so why do you want advice on focusing on ranking if you are already ranked?

Since your website sells products that sell in Indian rupees, you should focus on ranking on Google.co.in. Whenever people type Google in India, they will be directed to this site, and so it will be much easier for you to rank on google.co.in. Not only will it be easier but the traffic you will get is also going to be much more targeted.
