Ramit Sethi Exposed - How He Earns Millions Blogging

So, has anyone here been really successful in IM *without* doing much research? And if so, did you luck out or make it happen?

I was just reading a very interesting post on Problogger by Michael Alexis:

Ramit Sethi Exposed: How He Earns Millions Blogging : @ProBlogger

He talks about an interview he had with Ramit Sethi about the importance of research. The post is long and goes into some detail about the process of putting up an online offer.

One quote that I found interesting:

"Ramit spends months (or even years) doing research and development. He spends a lot of time crafting his product and offer, and he has converted as high as 68.7%. In our industry the average is 2-4%."

It is a wonderful confirmation of the importance of research before putting out an offer.

Amazing insight on what to do. Jason Fladlien is a master at this as well, getting insanely high conversion rates.

Great share Marvin! this man is a genius "A big part of selling a product is being able to understand your reader's barriers."

Studying human psyche is crucial if you want to win them...in fact this dictum rules every relationship on earth.

This was really interesting... 68.7% conversion... wow! I do think too many people rush in with just a few stats and a vague idea and then spend a lot of time back-peddling. People should take more time thinking through what they want to achieve and how they want to get there, plan and go over and then start building based on that plan.

68.7% conversion, well now if this kid stands beside you looks down and says, "mine is bigger than yours!"

What do you say back. Pretty impressive. LOL.

      Great share.
Having read the post it has changed the way I am going to approach the market I am targeting with my Bricks and mortar business. I have been asking the wrong questions!!
The market I am targeting is Financial Advisers and Mortgage Brokers and I've always known that the biggest barrier to them is new clients and I have been couching things in terms of increasing their revenues- not getting referrals which automatically increases their revenues, My product offering automatically gets them referrals and hence new clients DOH!!

Great post, I've been a fan of Ramit Sethi for years. This looks like some good inside information on exactly what he does. His book actually helped me a lot with managing my finances so it's pretty stress free.

It is great to hear that the link is providing value to us all!

I was just going over the blog post again, and this one is a definite keeper. The interview follows the following outline (copied and abbreviated from the interview):

    1. Do Research That Gets Inside Your Readers Head
    2. Know Who Your Customer Is And Who Your Customer Isn't
    3. Write A Sales Page That Makes Your Fortune
    4. What To Do Right After The Customer Buys
    5. The Three C's: Character, Content & Community
    6. Ethical Persuasion

And in reading through again, it is amazing how all of the points go back to #1, do research that gets into your customers head. His research techniques have certainly got my head thinking about the possibilitys and especially how to apply them.

Yeah, that is some great info alright.

I noticed the importance of understanding the customer better few months back and since then things have went better.

I even do those avatars or customer profiles. Of course, in the beginning those are based on hunches and reading between the lines, but then increasing meaningful interaction with the audience/customers helps you improve on those profiles which again helps you improve your offer/copy.
