How to Make Wordpress Post Homepage (not sticky)

So I'm trying to make a post my homepage, I know about making it sticky but I don't want any posts under it. I also tried to make a page and go into reading and change that to make it my main page but for some reason that won't work and my page won't load. I also went into reading and changed my posts show from 10 to 1, didn't work. Any other way I can make a post the only main page on the front without the other posts showing behind it?

Honestly, I don't understand why it didn't work for you when you set the maximum amount of articles to display on the front page to only one. I just tried this and it worked without any kind of problem. You'd better contact WordPress directly...

Take the content from your post and set up a page with it with a name that befits it.

Next set up a page called "blog" or "latest posts".

Then, go to your dashboard and then to "settings" then to "reading".

Set your special page you created with your special content as the "Front Page" and set your "Posts Page" as the "blog" or "latest posts"

    Just an idea.

Yup .. thread answered although I do suggest getting some SEO value out of the page names also.

Ya I guess I'm on crack or wordpress was tweaking out on me cuz I just did the reading again and changed both posts and syndication posts to 1 and it worked. But now it shows my sticky post which I want as the only post on the homepage and also my latest post. So anyone know how to get just the sticky post to stay there? I already tried the create a page and make that a homepage multiple times and that doesn't work for sure.

In the settings area you can select a certain page to be a static page. Just make a page, and use that page as your homepage.

    Or..

If it is a post, got to your settings and set it to read only 1 post. That will make it so only one post will show up, instead of 10, the default. the most recent post will show up on your homepage. To have a certain post be your homepage, just change the date, to be the most recent.

Troubleshooting 101: when things don't work - switch to the default (2011) theme.
If it works... screw your theme designer

As for the Settings > Reading > static page thing not working for you - either apply the method above... or you are doing something wrong.

    FYI:
Sticky posts do NOT count when you set the number of posts to be shown... i.e. if you have 5 stickies and settings to show 1 post = you will have 6 posts on your main page.

Syndication is only for the # of posts shown in the RSS feed... not on your main page.
