Is This Allowed? Advice Needed Please

Can some one in the know please tell me or advise me on the following please..

If I was to build a blog on a certain sport, then can I use images of the sportsmen associated with the blog post on my site without permission, or will this be copyright infringement?

I am not sure myself, it's a UK based blog, but will if possible feature overseas sportsmen associated with the sport.

If I wrote a post about Mr example, then can I show an image of him legally?

Thanks in advance!

It depends on who owns the rights to the image. For public figures, such as sports stars, whose images may have commercial value via endorsements and such, there may be another layer of rights to wade through.

Just because you run a blog covering a sport, it doesn't mean you automatically get rights to use any image you find related to the sport or its participants.

Unless there is an explicit license (such as Creative Commons), it's best to either obtain "the express written permission" of the rights holder or find another image.

If you're taking the photo it's ok. If you buy the image with right in a royalty free stock photo site it's ok.

It's not ok if you download the image in Google images and use it. I know that you can find images with rights in Google images, but can't recall how.

In the Advanced Search Options there is a rights option you can select to only return images available for commercial use.

If you must use someone else's photo, always site them as a source. If they're still mad, take it down.
