Help with List Building

Hey WF! Happy January!

So I know the basics of list building. I have a MailChimp account and I build most of my subscribers of my web design company through an opt-in to download a free report method.

But I want to know your techniques of building a list

I heard one guy saying he gets 100 targeted sign ups everyday for $25 through adwords and does extremely well selling to them. Is that possible?

I am launching two new services selling animated web videos and I'm considering having one of my main marketing techniques done through having a list with 10,000+ interested/targeted people by the end of this year that I can build trust with and eventually sell to.

So yeah like I said, would love to know how you get there

Thanks in advance!

Nick

P.S. If there is any good content on list building (preferably in the war room?) please let me know

Yes possible. This is great return. Only 25 cents/subscriber?

I sue a lot of Google Adwords but don't pass on what you can get from Bing and Yahoo. Cost per click is generally much lower especially if you don't make the mistake of overbidding for the top position.

Bid for your ad to place on position 4-8. And in some cases page 2 will give you better results (ROI) then the top spot.

Check out my WSO on pay per click. I'm killing it now using squeeze pages with free PPC credits to build my lists.

Yes, he has a good backend.

Jay Abraham talks a lot about having a solid backend.

He is covering the costs of his adwords probably through a series of upsells/downsells/ and one time offers.

Theres a story Jay Abraham has about a coin dealer client he worked with. They set up a campaign where they sold $19 silver coins at a loss. However, when the customers bought the $19 coin offer, Jay and the dealer had a direct marketing campaign go out that sold them on a $1,000 set of coins. Enough people bought that it covered the loss they incurred on the $19 offer plus gave them a generous profit (in the millions). I believe they had a series of upsells beyond that for more expensive sets (in fact, im sure of it).

Thats the power behind a good backend.

That's a great story! Getting people to know, like and trust you by buying a small purchase and then using that trust to upsell!

          Compelling!

It's called a ' lead loss ', supermarkets do it a lot, selling say bread for $1, then putting it next to the butter and spreads for instance,a subliminal thing... it really is a powerful tactic when used correctly, just make sure it's a quality product you are promoting.

          Hope this helps

Make sure you give something of value to your market. Even if you have to give something out for free like free videos or even super cheap videos. Then if they like it offer them your full service.

    Hey Nick,

I use free traffic methods like blog commenting, forum commenting, YouTube videos, and JV giveaways to drive 99% of my traffic to either a squeeze page or my blog. The usual methods still work the best, the key is to getting that traffic rolling in and then knowing how to monetize it on the backend, as mentioned by Andrew.

It takes time to get free traffic, but once you build it then it tends to be consistent and pretty good.

    Hope that helps.

Yup, definitely a good story, backend is where it's at. Gain their trust, and if you deserve that trust, then you can upsell. As long as you offer quality and value, you'll succeed.

As to the OP's question about list-building. I think that you really nailed it already - squeeze page and free report. Of course, the question is 'how do you send traffic to your squeeze page?'

Well, as you have seen, PPC is a great way to do that. As long as you target very specific keywords so you have pre-qualified traffic, you can usually make your profit on the backend after people opt-in.

However, there are many other ways. For instance, I get a good amount of sign ups from just sharing my opinion here of WF and other forums. I just make sure to have a link to my professional site in my profile or in my sig. Funny, I don't believe I have either at the moment. But, the point is that I (try to) share value and people want to hear more from me.

There's also the stand by of article marketing - I still have success here, even though many people will tell you that it's dead. Article marketing is now about writing high quality content - almost like little short reports, you HAVE to give value and people will reward you with opt-ins.

Then of course there is social marketing. I haven't gotten into much, but I'm sure that there is a lot of freely available info about how to develop a following - in fact, this very forum has tons of info on it.

My two cents from experience?? Content is king - always has been and always will be. If you can distribute content all over the net, while still maintaining quality and attaching your link, you can expect opt-ins. Use free means of content distribution and paid means of distribution, then just make sure to have your upsells in place in the backend and your e-mail series (including value AND promotions) pre-loaded into your autoresponder - and you'll make your money back plus profit.

I hope I've helped a little bit, this is just my experience.

      THANKS!

I also believe in content marketing and I am getting inspiring and high quality articles written now from professional writers or by writing articles myself. I think it will really pay off a few months down the track, I mean content really is king, especially when I see how many articles are being shared by my friends on facebook. It's great!

You can build your own list fast by buying solos then doing some adswaps

You can build your list with both free and paid methods. Paid are good - you get fast results, but you have to know what you are doing.

Free methods include but are not limited to: SEO, forum posting, blog commenting, Yahoo Answers, Twitter, Facebook, Craigslist, classified ad sites, Youtube marketing.

The guy who pays 25 bucks per 100 subs does a good job - 25 cents per subscriber is not too expensive. Even $1 per sub is not bad. Remember the rule of thumb? Every subscriber is worth $1/month, provided you monetize your list in a good way.

If you're just starting out I don't recommend going through the adwords route. You can and will most likely lose your hard earned money.

I have had good success with free traffic sources, and without giving the cat away, sites like scribd, ning and youtube have been great
