Book for Amazon and copyright

Writing is my passion and I've been planning to write at least one novel and sell it through amazon but I don't know how everything works.

My big questions are:

How can I obtain, or have my work copyrighted (I'm not from US)?
How much or what are the fees involved in obtaining a copyright? Any step by step process is highly appreciated.
Do I need a publisher?
Do I need to have hard copy?

    Unfortunately, I can't speak for whatever country you're from (unless you're from western Europe), but in the U.S. they've simplified things a bit:

    Anything you create (along the lines of what you're talking about: a novel) is automatically copyrighted. In most western European nations it's pretty much the same thing: when you create something, it's automatically protected.

    Here's a good place to start with the U.S. for example if you want to do something a little more formal:

    Pretty much, in a nut shell, is not NOT rely on what posters here write or say (including me). This is WORTHY of being careful and researching the material yourself until you are fully satisfied that you're work will be protected to your standard.
