Do people make fun of your niche?

Everyone has a niche. Online, offline...

Pretty much everyone has a niche.

If you want 'this' you go 'here'.

If you want 'that' you go 'there'.

Whatever you want to buy...let's say it's a pair of SHOES.

Immediately, I bet a couple different places popped into
your head (especially if you are of the female persuasion).

They are places that either specialize in the shoe niche
or they have a 'department' that specializes in it.

But, some Internet marketing 'elitists' look down on certain
niches don't they?

Listen, if my niche was colon tweazers and I was making money
at it, I wouldn't care what anyone else said would you?

My niche is helping people get traffic for their biz-opps, mlm
and similar programs. IM elitists (many of them anyway) look
down their noses at that. Do I care?

What's your niche? Do people make fun of it?

Thanks for the post rkat55. Visionaries for the last....well always been made fun of their "outside of the box" mentality. After many years of simply making my "niche" idea just inside my head, I am tired of no one understanding my "niche". Sometimes to be a leader in any field it is lonely and very sweat-inducing. By the way "colon tweezers" has got to be the funniest line I've ever heard.

    Good journey Warrior

      Hi

      If you care... you loose..

I started a business and many of relatives, friends, including parents made fun of it..I though of leaving it, but again I felt why should I leave if they are not happy with it. I continued and today its a Private Limited Company expanded over various cities.

Now the same people who made fun are scratching their head over my success

Such reactions can bring a huge volume of attention, which quite often translates into free viral advertising. Many of my niches effectively extract very impressive profits by leveraging laughter and ridicule within topics such as tattoo removal, condoms, circumcision, mammagrams, baby products, baby boomer products, funeral products, conspiracies, UFOs, Mayan 2012 calender, end of the world prophecies, etc.

Hey Paul, that's a tremendous point you make. These niches do get people's attention. If I were an affiliate marketer I would definitely go after these types of things myself. Good post!

    Hi

Niches with an "embarrassment factor" can be very lucrative. Many customers would prefer to search online for a solution than go to a local resource.

Anything sexual like STDs, toys, dysfunction solutions, etc. will have may buyers looking online for a solution.

The same with socially embarrassing conditions. Problems like hemorrhoids, acne, bad breath, body odor are also lucrative.

People prefer online resources so they don't have to and ask for "embarrassing product" from the 17 year old sales girl at the pharmacy.

Are any of you suffering from anal leakage and don't want to go to CVS, Rite-Aid, or Walgreens? Don't worry, I have the product for you! (insert affiliate link). LOL!

Yeah, okay, so I have no product for the above mentioned. But yeah, there are some weird and off the wall, but very profitable niches out there. Just like what was mentioned, anything that requires embarrassment is a bonus as so many people aren't willing to go out to a store to inquire on products that will only embarrass them further. And some of those are indeed the money makers because most of us aren't really thinking to pursue something in a field such as penis enlargement, or ejaculation (Oddly enough, I think I saw something on CB that this displayed for... I was like, are you serious??)

So making fun of a niche? Maybe. Laughing at you going to the bank with your $17k for the month? Probably not. In the end, if you can dominate it and not be embarrassed yourself, go for it. Or if it's something that interests you, go for it.

When I read your post, a couple of things popped into my head.

First, if you read Gladwell's "Millionaire Next Door", you'll see that most of those home-grown fortunes were made in pretty mundane markets such as garbage collecting, janitorial services or scrap auto parts.

Second, I got an image of Kramer (from Seinfeld) getting the license plates for the proctologist by mistake. He had a good time being the 'Assman'...

Great points John. Untold fortunes have been made simply by someone seeing a need in a very mundane niche and filling it. A lightbulb goes off "Hey, I know a better way to do this!"

And voila, some guy who was making ten bucks an hour is suddenly a millionaire.

On my way now to order my COLONTWEAZERS license plate

Some times people will but in a couple years time I know that I am going to be a 7 figure a year marketer. I will do anything it takes.

But sometimes people laugh at niches like building muscle and such. These small niches.

But when I first started out, I spoke to a marketer on here, who to date is the most successful marketer I have seen. He spoke me through some stuff and helped just because he said he wamnted to see a successful kid. Anyway he told me he deals with about 100 tiny niches, on the keyword tool none of them get more than 8000 searches per month. But with the sheer volume of the 100 niches he is making a killing. Plus I doubt there is any competition on niches so small!

Sure, I know what you mean, but online mlm is a totally different animal, it's just affiliate marketing that pays commissions on more than one level. No hotel meetings, no tricking your friends and family into coming to embarrassing home presentations. Although a lot of people still do that stuff.

      Hawaii travel?? Ewwww! How embarrassing

Yeah, that's my issue with it all the way. My other issue with mlm is the cost to get into it.

You can do straight affiliate marketing with a zero startup budget.

I'm not trying to sell online mlm's by any means, but, most of them are pretty cheap to get in. Most under 50 bucks.

But, everyone is into something different and that's the whole point of this thread. The goal is to make money and hopefully, if you're really lucky you can make money doing something you enjoy doing.

Nah, who gives a sh!t what others think of your niche, or even the fact that you make a living doing Internet Marketing.

I was at lunch today with my Grandma and other family members when my aunt looked at me and asked "Whats Digital Bankroll?"

I said "Oh, thats my info product!" in a very excited tone like someone in my family actually gave a hoot.

She looked at me with a very puzzled look on her face, shrugged her shoulders and said "Whats that?"

I said very slowly "Its an information product that teaches people how to make money online." And I stopped right there because going into any specifics would have been futile.

I then went on to say "Yeah, and its helped a ton of people make their first sale online, and because of that, I now wake up to money in my email account virtually every single day."

Still confused, she replied and said "Oh great well it sounds like its really taking off."

I laughed and said "You have no idea. What are you doing for the party later tonight?"

The moral of that story is, even though my aunt has virtually no idea what I do, how it works, or what it could do for her passion about movies, she was confused and skeptical.

And thats literally how 99% of everyone you ever talk to about your Internet business will react. Its because its such a new/different industry and way to make money that most people still don't even understand it.

But thats cool. Keep on doin' yo thang!

Keep grindin, keep hustlin', and most of all, keep ya head up!

    I'm rootin' for ya,
    Matthew

That's certainly old school niche marketing for sure. Question: where

I figure if your goal is to make money and the niche helps you do it, then more power to you!

I have heaps of client websites that I promote that range from standard type niches to the truly bizarre - BUT having checked out these weird niches it was easy to see why they are worth targeting.

Elitist IMers turning their noses up = less competition, less competition = faster/easier rankings, end result = more money for the dude with the weird niche
