Question regarding Amazon AM: UK & RoW visitors

Hi All,

I'm pretty new to IM so be gentle on me!

If I have a .co.uk domain and I'm promoting products on Amazon.co.uk, will users from outside the UK be automatically redirected to their own country's Amazon TLD? For Example, would a US visitor to my site who clicks through a link onto an amazon.co.uk advertised product, be automatically directed to the US equivalent at amazon.com?

And if not, are there any workarounds for this? Surely I don't need to set up another domain, more generic (.com/.net/.biz etc) to catch all non-UK visitors to me site and direct them to the US site?

Hope this makes sense!!!

Many thanks to all who respond in advance

No, they won't be automatically redirected. You can get wordpress plugins that will do it for you though.

There is a free one called Amazon link localizer but its not very good. Theres a paid one that Gaz Cooper created that I've heard good things about but haven't used it myself.

I use a Wordpress plugin called Link Localizer. You will need to register with the other Amazon countries though, ie Amazon.com, Amazon.ca (Canada) and all the European branches of Amazon. Once you have your ID's you just enter them into the plugin and bob's your uncle!

Hope I've explained this correctly because I'm fairly new too

        Thanks guys!

The Link Localiser plugin sounds like it's worth a shot.

Can anyone else recommend any other tools?

You can also use WordPress Amazon Associate Plugin to accomplish that.

Yes you will have to use a link localizer to accomplish that and there are several on the market.

There is a free one which is a very simple plugin that geo locates where your visitor is visiting from then redirects them to that specific country site.

The problem with that one is it is very limited in its features and cannot handle if the product has a different ASIN number for each country which is the case on a regular basis, when that happens it will direct you to a search page which can be frustrating to the end user as they have to search. all over again.

Some think the plugin works fine others are not so impressed for me I just found it too limiting and wanted to have more control when using an Amazon link localizer so I created my own.

I created a very flexible Amazon link localizer and it has a lot of features and will show you if a product is not found on any country site and then allows you to add the correct link to that product, so your visitor is directed to the exact page for that product on each country site.

I also added a basic flag feature which is manual feature allowing you to add the exact pages you want the visitor to visit when they choose and click on their own country flag.

I am just about to release version 2 which will correct a few minor bugs and add a couple more features.

You may wish to focus on the US market and then direct to the UK site since the US market is much much bigger.

    Kickin it on Amazon
