What if AWeber goes down for good?

Do you have any backup plans?

Do you regularly make backups of your databases and autoresponder series?

Where would you take your backuped list if AWeber were to fail? Most list providers require a new opt-in which would kill your list.

Do you maybe already put your eggs in more than one autoresponder service basket?

I'd be thankful that I back up and treat my lists good, then I would simply switch to icontact, even though type would have to re confirm I would lose a few but I would still get back the loyals, I really wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

I've actually switched autoresponder services before and had to do the whole re-confirm thing, I lost quite a few people but kept all the ones who were actve and responsive

      Subscriber backups: Check.
      Dedicated server: Check.
14 years with the same webhost: Check.
      Backup mailing solutions: Check.

I think I'd probably be okay.

Do you care to elaborate? Will you run the lists yourself then or do you have a provider that allows imports without reconfirmation? It probably is possible to move your list somewhere else if you can convince the new provider that the subscribers are legit.

I make a backup every day because I don't want to lose one good lead.

However, it's not 100% true that switching to a company that will only allow you to send out a confirm email rather than import your whole list will kill it.

I know a few marketers who joined at GetResponse and they asked them to import their entire lists and they obliged. I also know a few who were told no by them.

But I don't think it kills your list. If you have a loyal customer who likes your content then they will most likely re-opt in with you. So, let's say your list is 10,000 subs and only 4,000 re-confirm. There's a good chance that the 6,000 who did not may have been a lot of dead weight that you were paying for unnecessarily.

What would you rather have, 50,000 so-so subs, or 10,000 loyal repeat customer subs?

    I know which I'd choose.

AutoResponse Plus for server-side handling, and WorldMerge for desktop mailing.

Every subscriber in my Aweber database is confirmed opt-in, with the data still in the records, and I know enough people in the business to be able to find hosts to allow me to send the mail if I didn't have a server already. One of the advantages of a very long anti-spam history.

Pretty much anyone with 100% COI lists, though, could get a dedicated server and AR+ and mail to those lists, if you're up front with the web host. The real issue is having the server horsepower and dedicated IP to avoid getting a bunch of other people blocked if there's a problem.

I am pretty sure that if someone like Aweber went down then the other autoresponder companies would be falling over themselves to make special deals that allowed Aweber customers to import their lists.

I thinks it's a great question, however, the chances of Aweber going down for good are as likely as Google going down, they are a very solid company with plenty of 'what if' systems in place, and like Nicola said, if it ever did happen, other companies would surely help out.

I make sure my whole system is backed up at all times even the lists.

    Hope this helps

I don't think that Aweber is going anywhere.

Why would you guys speculate that? They must have a server down and I am sure that nothing gets out of place when it comes to client's lists.

Backed up a week ago, so some would be lost...

But why do people think Aweber will disappear? Sure, they'll owe refunds for loss of service - I had a time sensitive final reminder queued for 9.40am EST today for a product that will double in price tomorrow...

That's business on the data highway, I guess.

I don't think they will disappear, but if you don't have a backup plan you put yourself at the mercy of one single company. Just like the people who rely solely on Adsense income.

Is it likely something will happen? Probably not. But when it does, you will be VERY GLAD you have your backups.
