Any UK warriors with their own Merchant Account in $US?

I'm currently looking at all the options, before I launch my new membership site next month. I don't want to trust my subscriptions to PP, so want something less "Everything could end in the blink of an eye."

Any UK warriors out there, who have their own US dollar merchant account? Any recommendations?

    Hey Tom,

I have a US merchant act, where i am able to accept payments on my site rather than redirecting people off my site. I did go down the road of incorporating a US business in New Mexico, opening a US bank account and setting up a merchant act.

BTW, incorporating a business business in new mexico is really minimal, in fact there are "0" annual fees. I suggest starting there then move on to the getting a bank account, when this is achieved 9 times out of 10 the bank will over a merchant account. Because most merchant act providers will require you to have a SSN, this is why i recommend getting a bank account.

Unless you have a USA bank account you will not be able to have your very own merchant account. If you don't mind using a third party company there are many out there. Just do a search in Google.

That is HARD to believe! A lot of US only features aren't even always available in the US, and often not used, and are simply IGNORED elsewhere. Foreign merchants are probably 40%+ of their base. Others probably don't use CC as much, etc... As for needing an SSN, in the us, I think you only need a TIN! That is typically an SSN OR an EIN! To get an EIN (Employer Id Number), you can use a corporation.

I am referring to a USA based merchant provider, if one intends to build a business around the US market. If one does not have the basics such as an entity (in the USA,) EIN and business bank account, one would have a HARD time getting a real merchant account. However there are offshore merchant providers who will take your local bank statement as proof. But NO USA merchant provider will touch you. You dont even need a SSN or ITIN to do this.
