1 Flip, 2 Flip, 3 Flip 4!!

Hey Warriors,

I just wanted to share with you some good news! I'm not sharing this to brag but to let the newbies (myself included) know there is hope for making extra money online.

I got out of the U.S. Army in January 08 and wanted to make some extra money online. I purchased Yaro Starak's Blog Masterming course and started my blog Nichefree.com.

I ran the blog for about 3 months, adding content, doing social bookmarking, and requesting backlinks with other bloggers in the MMO niche. After 3 months I decided to flip the blog on sitepoint and it sold for $1,400.00! This sparked a blog flipping addiction!! Since then, I have flipped a few sites.

Here is the break down:

*nichefree.com:

Established MMO/ IM, blogging, & Niche marketing blog for sale | PR 3 | with members!

sold: $1,400 Mon Nov 17 2008 19:43

*Riflescopeauctions.com

Private sale (Same owner as nichefree.com)

sold:$2100
Transaction Date: Nov 24, 2008

*yogamatreviews.com:

Yogamatreviews.com for sale! | HUGE Potential $$ | Custom character logo/graphics | Review rating system | Forums| Ebook

sold:Wed Dec 03 2008 13:52

$250

beer blog:

[WTS]*UNIQUE BEER BLOG* 100% Unique written content and stock photos.

sold:jan 08 via private bid PM

$120

I also have a current auction at sitepoint for a niche blog I build that has already brought in $187 in EPN commissions for January. The current bid for that site is $1,150.

All sites total=$5,020 So far!

I'm only doing this part time! Imagine if I did it full time!

One thing I did do was made sure I ran the blog for at least 30 days to be established. I would them schedule my content to post once every few days, freeing me up to promote the blog via social bookmarking and link building.

If you are willing to work, then there is money to be made! You have to work for it, that's all there is to it!

I hope this helps and motivates you. Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Jerry

    Congratulations Jerry!!! You done good!

I'm curious i you meant te above as literally as you typed it.... It reads as if you created the blog and let it sit for a month or so BEFORE you started to add content or develop backlinks.... Yes?

If so... did you do this on purpose or was it just the way it worked out

    Thanks!

      Hey Chris,

Sorry about the confusion. I would set up the blog and schedule the postings while promoting the blog for 30+ days.

Within the 30 days I wanted to make sure I got the blogs indexed and promoted well for the new owner.

      I hope that helps.

yay! congrats! I think your strategy is a very good one...plus you had some really good domain names there

I'm very quietly working on a few sites myself...and your post confirms I'm on the right track

        here's to our mutual success!

good work! Nice looking blogs, too.

What template did you use on the nichefree blog (if, of course, if was one available)? I really like that layout.

Psst: If you'd rather not give that info out, I understand.

            That's great Jerry,

I'm still working my way around sitepoint. My first flip was a flop.

Now I currently have a blog Home Renovation Designs on auction: ++ Home Renovation Designs + Unique Content + Videos + Sales Page + 28 Page Ebook + Premium Theme + Clickbank Ready at sitepoint.

People are PM'ing me with interest but they are just not bidding. I don't know why. Tried to contact them again through PM but no response.

I think the .info domain is the problem. There has been a lot of rumor and debate about .info's--right or wrong--I think it scares potential customers away. Stick to .com's.

The rifle scope site was indexed when I sold it. I don't think the new owner added any fresh content, which is key for BANS sites.

Thanks for clearing that out for me, at list it gives me hope on my next flip. But the funny thing why I thought of the .info is because I came across some guy who is selling sites using the .info

I have to agree with Alan on this. In many cases the .info domains don't have the same percieved value as .coms, or even .nets or .org.

Congrats on your good result, it shows that there is definitely money to be made in site flipping if you can produce good quality sites, the reason is simply, most of the people are just too lazy to make a site or don't know how to, they rather pay someone to get a site.

If you think about it, one of the reasons that people do buy sites is because they need to invest some cash rather than giving it to the taxman - they might be building a network of virtual real estate that produces income. Sometimes laziness is not the reason.

        S-w-e-e-t way to go Jerry.

        Nice looking sites.

I've heard a lot lately about blog/site flipping becoming over saturated.

        Any thoughts on that?

Hate to jump in on the tail end of a trend.

getting them and making them is not the problem.

The problem is getting them up to some PR2 or PR3+ and being able to say "this sites makes me XXX a month"...THEN they sell halfway "ok".

That's some pretty awesome flips during the bad market. Give yourself a pat on your back. Even top site flippers are not selling well on SitePoint lately.

they sold since you got PR3 and did a lot of promo (i assume) before you even listed them.
I still say its hard to even break even with PR0 domains which dont have any revenue yet - thats how i define "flipping": Making sites with the purpose to resell them *quickly*-

Just no one is really interested in "new" sites without PR and without revenue. Flipping "just made" sites is not easy. ESPECIALLY right now.

flipping will never get old. the seasoned flippers will always make money, and the newbs who produce shitty sites will stop trying after a few tries. the market is over saturated with ugly sites, yes. but if your site is good, it will sell.

Yes, a few notes are in order. First, crappy sites will always sell around DP for $39 or so. If you throw them together fast, you'll do well. Now the real flippers start with a domain that already has PR, they can be obtained relatively inexpensively, and if you invest in a writer, you almost have to do this to get more income from the flip. A combination of short range and long range flips is the rule of the day until you have enough cash and a long enough list for long range (60+ days) flips only.

For some reasons, "crappy" sites + revolution church seems like an effective combo. Of course I won't say that revolution church is the best theme to invest now as we can see it's pretty much saturated.

I agreed with TomG over domains with PR. I personally have purchased over 30+ domains with PR and they work very very well as a selling point.

One of the lessons that I have taught some of my followers is that NEVER EVER get domains name like .info or .mobi. Always go for .com, .net and .org only. People's impressions on .info sites are usually cheap, lousy, worthless, short term sites. Although they're cheap, but it's a big turnoff for the buyers.

I agree, buying a domain with PR would be the best option. I've also transferred the niche free domain and google has not dropped the PR, and its been months since the transfer.

Congratulations on the sales! Great achivement!

I just started flipping website! I mean trying to flip websites! I have currently one website listed on sitepoint, EXTREMELY HOT Ice Fishing Site - 100 % Unique, Brandable, Memorable, Keyword Rich Domain! Make $$$$ Right Now!, but there seems to
    be no interest in it!

The website has unique content! I see a lot of people are selling sites with PLR articles, and people do buy them!

Can somebody tell me what am I doing wrong?

Hey Jerry I'd love to do this too. I have several blogs and I put unique content on them, a wordpress theme, etc. But what I get tangled up on is the technical aspect of the transfer.

I had a friend do it once and it was a months long nightmare. How do you transfer the domain and its content intact to the new owner? I use godaddy for my domains and hostgator for my hosting, fyi.

      Tiffany,

I always offer to transfer the site for free. These are the steps I take.

      1. Transfer the domain to the new owner.
      2. ask for the login info and set tne DNS servers to the proper hosting account (or the new owner will do it)
      3. download all site files via FTP.
      4. Download sql database file.

Once the domain name is transferred and propigated. Once the domain is propigated I do the following.

      5. Create a addon domain (if on a shared hosting account)
      6. upload all site files to proper directory (or root directory if reseller hosting)
7.upload database via myphpadmin in cpanel
8 check the site and login.

      I hope this helps.
