Help Point this IM Noob [with a plan] in the Right Direction

I'm gearing up for my first push into affiliate marketing.

I've picked a high-grav offer from clickbank.

It's in the health and fitness niche, and I'm not looking to necessarily get rich from the product, I'm more interested in picking up my first few sales and learning from them. (I know the area is full of competition, I just want a *tiny* piece of the pie for this first venture)

I'm considering doing some of the following:

  • Building a wordpress site with information about the niche, real useful information that will be of benefit to visitors
  • Have a few review segments on the product in a "it helps solve the problem you're currently reading about"
  • Having an email sign-up with the bait of a free ebook (my affiliate link will be in the ebook)
  • Use the list wisely to continue to provide value
To drive traffic to the site:
  • Google AdWords
    • PPC & Contextual Ads
      • I'm not looking to break the bank here. I want to focus on targeted KW's (long tail) that will drive cheap (yet targeted) traffic to the site. AD-CPC of something like 10 cents.
  • Facebook: I'm very interested in Facebook for this venture, but I'm not 100% how to harness its true potential. In the most simple way, I assume that Facebook PPC would be easiest. For my first outing, I'm not looking to pump money into facebook. I am considering building just a fan page for those that won't normally enter in their email.
  • Twitter: Same as above.
  • I'm not sure if social media is a necessary part of the puzzle to my first venture. I can imagine building a list & maintaining social media connections can be good for long-term success. Building a good relationship and providing value in the niche.
If anyone has any more information about how to launch a CB product for the first time, or any insight on avoiding some common first-timer mistakes, I would be very thankful - If not, I'll be coming back and updating my work every so often.

Keep in mind, I've been an SEO freelancer for quite some time, so I know a bit about selecting keywords, and optimizing sites. The ebook is part of a very competitive niche, so I'm not going to focus on organic traffic for highly competitive terms this first venture out. I'm really looking for paid and organic traffic on long-tail KW's only. I'm also not creating a "product-only" website, where it's titled: widget-review.com - I'm hoping to create a site where people return.

My goal for this project: Profit 200 dollars
Budget: 100 dollars
That's 10 sales I'm looking to achieve

Questions:
How do I incorporate a landing or squeeze page (they're the same, right?) into a wordpress blog?

How should I incorporate social media?

Any other comments or input?

Thank you fellow Warriors for your insight - it's mucho appreciated. Feel free to recall some stories or lessons learned from your first marketing venture.

Time to get my feet wet!

    You can Google:

    Free wordpress squeeze page plugin
or free wordpress squeeze page themes
If you have enough money, you can actually find some really nice WP landing page themes. A lot of marketers like to use optimizepress

Another option is building your own squeeze page with the theme of your choice...just create one simple page and put a simple optin email form in the sidebar on the right. By installing the "exclude pages" plugin, you can hide your thank you / download page.
