Rethinking Salesletters

I'm seeing a lot of really funny and uniquely put together sales pages (let's drop the 'letter' part already) in the WSO sections these days. One seller made incredible use of rage comics, another had an eye popping GIF that made buying the WSO the easiest decision I've ever made.

In general, I love these fresh takes on sales pages and would be ecstatic if we saw more of these and less of the boring old 'screaming headline + long copy' format.

Perhaps we can also move to the kind of sales letters used by 37Signals, over the traditional format used by most marketers. It's becoming increasingly difficult to set your sales page apart from the sea of imitators out there, and I do think a different approach can yield rewards.

Thoughts, warriors?

I definitely think as a new comer to the IM world that the same formula is used by too many marketers. I've actually asked on other forums why everyone uses the TITLE WITH QUESTION OR CLAIM then massively long squeeze page format. The answer I received was because it works.

One marketer told me he had tried replacing a squeeze page with a less spammy looking normal page and his conversion rates dropped drastically.

I guess there is still a lot of value in the old squeeze page format. I know that as a consumer I've always just clicked back as soon as I hit one as I associate them with spam generally.

It should not be an issue of what kind of sales letter you prefer or I prefer, to be honest.

We should test different sales copy models, and then use the versions that produce the best results.

If someone is not testing, tweaking and changing things, based on the results they see from the existing copy, then they are hobby IMers and not real business people.

I think its about testing what works...

If we look out of the IM market you will see different Salespages to the ones we tend to see in the IM market.....

But I agree.....you need to stand out some how...

I use what I use because it works. The top money making gurus have been asked and answered this on their blogs and they both said it, they won't change something while it is still massively working.

They both routinely test every new method that comes out and then either post the results in their members areas or their blogs.

So I follow what the big guys use and keep using what works for me.

However, by all means, split test the new methods and see what works better for you.

Can you recommend any blogs to follow please? I know that I can google but it's hard to know what to trust and what not to. I really value actual human referrals to blogs.

      Thanks!
