Questions for Amazon affiliates as far as pricing.

I was wondering for those affiliates who have been around the block once or twice, what price range are the products you promote?

I had a niche in mind, but the products are usually within the $20 or lower range, and Amazon always seems to have deals, so they could be much less than that by checkout time.

Is there a certain price range that you feel is best? Are smaller priced items a waste of time?

I know a lot of you have success with promoting Amazon items, just thought I'd pick your brain a bit.

    What you gotta ask yourself, is it worth promoting a product for a commssion of 80c to $1.60!!! I am currently targeting a product range between $300 and $4000.

      If you are eligible for the incentive program, you gotta ask yourself, is it worth getting paid $0.80 to $1.60 to give yourself a 50%+ raise in commission on those $300 to $4,000 sales.

      Ask the most successful (read 'highest paid') Amazon associates and they'll tell you that they promote two or three tiers of price ranges.

      > Cheap, easy-to-move impulse items to bump the commission rates on bigger sales.

      > The bread-and-butter items in the mid price ranges.

      > The "oh my gosh, someone actually bought it" high dollar items that can make for record months. In the real world, these are called 'slack adjusters'. You might only sell one or two a year, but the payoff makes up for some of the lean months.

    you make a good point there john, i do use hubpages for the lower priced items but devote most of my time on my larger wordpress site going after the bigger commissions.

    Doesn't have to be your own, maybe one you think looks good or modeled your own after.

    I always go for Electronics. That's the most profitable niche for me.

    For me, it's a numbers gain:

    Low commissions, TONS of products. High commissions, very focused products.

    If it's got a lot of searches, you may want to give it a try. This would help bump up the commissions as searchers will tend to buy as it's not too expensive. Then, build sites for higher-priced items.
