Study: How To Write Tweets That Your Followers Hate

Scientists had 43,738 Tweets rated by 1,443 people over the time of one year, to find out what types of Tweets they liked, and what they disliked.

How to write Tweets that people LOVE
- questions to followers received the best ratings
- Information sharing gets high ratings
- suprise: self promotion gets good ratings

How to write Tweets that people HATE
- only 36% of the Tweets were considered worth reading.
- personal info, like what you are doing now, was rated worst !!!
- using many hashtags and @ is a bad idea, users care much more for the content of the tweet than the references
- tweets giving incomplete information/context to be easily understood are a wast of time
- repeating info that's already out there is considered boring

Here's the summary of the study, a 4 page short PDF:

That is incredible. I saw some guy yesterday post his blog that was getting a thousand views in the exercise niche but he wasn't getting any sales.

His ENTIRE BLOG was him writing about random stuff HE was doing. NOBODY GIVES A CRAP what you do with your life.

Unless you are famous of the sorts, noone cares. But still I see so many people on this forum writing autobiographies of their life. I think that they think if they just fake it long enough, trying to be cool that is, that people will become interested. Problem is they can't even write in a cool & interesting way. Its just matter a fact descriptive language. "I did this, then I did that, then I went here" etc etc.

All I know, is if there is one thing I HATE reading its what people are doing now, yesterday, or tommorow, it better be DAMN IMPORTANT, because if its anything like "I'm going on a trip" who cares? Don't write that on a blog unless you've built a REALLY STRONG relationship with your readers.

But noone seems to do that part. They just write "all about me me me".. and I just don't care about you. If I'm some random stranger visiting your blog/twitter because you tricked me into thinking it was good, the LAST THING I want to find are stories about your life. Call my evil, but I just don't care.

I am surprised that asking your followers questions got the best rating. I am going to have try that and see what happens.
