Why Do XML Sitemaps Go Bad? - And How To Fix Them?
For example, I just looked at one of my XML Sitemaps and here is what it says on the page (which now has a pink background):
================================================== ==
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://www.mywebsite.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 589:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><?xml-stylesheet type="text/xsl" href="http://www.mywebsite.com/wp-content/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/sitemap.xsl"?><!-- generator="wordpress/2.7" --><!-- sitemap-generator-url="http://www.arnebrachhold.de" sitemap-generator-version="3.1.2" --><!-- generated-on="January 31, 2009 12:39 pm" --><urlset xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9 http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9/sitemap.xsd" xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
================================================== ==
Does anyone know why this happens and what I can do to fix this problem (besides reuploading the XML Sitemap page from my HTML editor, or clicking the 'Update XML Sitemap' button in Wordpress)?
Thank you
Steve
