I thought Skype was once free...or am I crazy??

I do not have Skype, believe it or not.

I am thinking it might be time to get it since so many vendors on WF use it for quick communications (quicker than PM's or email).

Wasn't Skype once available for free...or am I living in the Jurassic age??

What package do most of you Warriors get?

Do you use it for chat only??? If I use it for conversation do I need an expensive microphone or something??

Help me WF!!!

Andrew

Last time I looked, Skype was free to download and install, and computer to computer communication over the Internet was also free. If you want to use it as a telephone, talking to people with regular phone service (including cellular), there are per-minute fees.

Fancy equipment isn't necessary, but you do need a mic for voice and also a webcam for video chat. Many laptops nowadays come equipped with both built in.

If you want to use it for Skype to telephone (landline or cell) your best bet is a subscription.

$2.99 per month for up to 50 calls per day.

Skype is free, it only costs money to call cells or land lines.

Skype is free to use and download. You don't need a expensive mic you can use the one built into your laptop (if it came that way) or a cheap one from walmart.

The only reason you'd have to pay money is to call land lines or cell phones or SMS text messaging i think... Other than that skype 2 skype calls/chat are absolutely free.

OK, I think I get it. They are very sneaky on their home page where the initial "slide show" features their calling plans, all of which are paid plans. But I dug a little deeper and found the mention of free service for Skype-to-Skype...thank you all.

Skype to Skype calls are still free.

Skype to Phone has toll charges.

Text chat is also always free.

I use Skype to Skype and text chat daily.

It is definitely more difficult to wade through their offers and download for free now. It is there though, I recently installed Skype again too. Just got to click through the offers and find that free download button after signing in.

Nothing against Skype though, they offer a great software and have every right to make sure people see their paid features.
