Any advice for a rookie?

Everyone,

I'm brand spanking new here and I see a million threads of great value waiting to be read. However, I figured I would post some general aspects of my situation and see if any of the experienced voices here have some quality advice for me.

I recently built my own product, a downloadable business planning guide, and have created a site with a couple of landing pages. I have started with Google Adwords. I am having little success there so far (sold 1 ). The keyword prices are high, $.75 - $3.00 as there are a lot of competitors for these words. I am keeping my CPC around $.75 however and achieving a decent CTR on certain ads/keywords.

On Landing Page 1, I ran a campaign that did about 450 clicks with 1 conversion. On Landing Page 2 I have 32 clicks with 0 conversions. I will be driving that to around 200 clicks over the next day and a half and then making some decisions.

In any event I do have 3 generic questions:

1.) How many clicks/impressions do you require before you consider a sample size statistically relevant?

2.) At what point (cost/clicks) do you decide that it is not a landing page/pricing issue with a certain product but simply the fact that you are not selling something that people want?

3.) I have signed up with Peerfly to begin trying some CPA with different products - is Peerfly a good network? If not, who do you recommend?

Any and all help is appreciated, super new so just looking to learn from some vets.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Dustin

First, paid advertising is tricky.. You are gonna lose a lot more than that. So I hope you're ready to ride it out to truly determine what is a success and what isn't.

Have you considered launching an affiliate program for your product & letting affiliates promote it for you?

If not, you should. Check out JVZoo.com - Instant Commission Platform for Sellers and Affiliates (not a referral link, although I do have one)

I just made a post that was way too detailed about them, so I'm not writing all of it again. Just check my previous posts, you'll see it. It was the last post I made. Long story short, you will love it. I know I do

2nd, yea, Peerfly is good. Also check out Maxbounty & Globalizer

Then for a HUGE list of CPA networks, along with reviews, ways to contact the affiliate managers & so on, check out Reviews of CPA Networks, Affiliate Programs and Ad Networks - Affpaying

OH - And some of the best advice you could get, stick around. I was a bit skeptical of this forum for a very long time, but figured I should give it a chance. And as you can see, here I am

    You'll be glad you did.

      Hi Dustin,

I like Whos That Guru's comment on this but if you want detailed real life examples of successful campaigns to learn from, I would invest in a coaching program from successful marketers.

You need to learn through real life examples to become good at sending targeted traffic, you cannot ask one specific question in one situation. The more you learn from the best and apply their principles, the more you will succeed.

One Marketer I recommend on this is Chad Hamzeh. He is a Warrior Forum member and he has more than real life and successful examples, he has also courses and support (coaching) to offer on this.

      Hope it helps,

      David

      Thanks for the advice Whos

I have started an affiliate account with Clickbank - so far 247 Clicks and 0 Order form Impressions. I'm not sure if I should be discouraged by that or not.

Are affiliates a volume game? I would assume yes since some of the traffic won't be as qualified as PPC.

      Is Clickbank a decent affiliate?

      Thanks again,

      Dustin

Never, because even if you discover that PPC is entirely unsuitable for your product, that doesn't mean you are not selling something that people want. I have a product that did absolutely nothing for me when I tried out PPC (hard to get any clicks, and the clicks I did get basically had me breaking even) but does great with other traffic sources.

Thanks Jon, I appreciate the feedback. Besides Affiliate traffic, what other sources have been successful for you?

I have a baseline of traffic that is the result of a bunch of different efforts early on, including bookmarking, article directories, blog commenting, etc. The site even gets a little bit of organic traffic, even though I haven't done much SEO on it. But one thing that has been powerful for me is video marketing on YouTube. When you get it right, it can be extremely rewarding.

I have to say I have been on this forum a while now and I also a member of the war room where I have been given so much great knowledge and also free products.

I initially purchased way to many WSO's and simply ended up confusing the hell out of myself and many of these WSO's were about getting traffic and ranking sites. It became very obvious people all have their own opinions and ways of doing things, so you have to be careful not to fall in to the trap of taking one method as gospel and disregarding the others, what works for one person is not going to work for another, I have proven this time and time again, there are some things I simply hate and writing articles and content is one of them, so I quickly decided to outsource it but made sure the person I was using knew EXACTLY what I wanted, the style of writing, word count, keyword density, 500 word article using keyword approx 8 times works well for me.

PPC for a newbie can be a disaster you really have to know what you are doing and personally I would stay away from it, you can burn money for fun and I have many times.

I eventually realised there is NO quick and easy way to start making money in affiliate marketing and the worst thing you can do is keep buying more systems looking for the magic push button software, I don't care that anybody says it does not exist.

Start with the basics and learn about wordpress, google likes these sites and they are easy to build...

Then get a course on "keyword Research" massive subject get it wrong like ?i did and you waste YEARS.. Niche keywords, buying keywords, there is so much to learn.

I now find buying keywords like "best XXXX" "xxxxx Review" " Buy XXXXXX" and these have been the most profitable for me.

Then learn about how to check your competition, you can find a great keyword but if the competition is to high, forget it. I still use "keyword" and if it's less than 100,000 I know I have a chance to rank it, especially if I can get an EMD, oh yeah exact match domains I love.. Some people will say they are not a powerful these days, I disagree I use them all the time and rank first page most times if the competition is not to high.

Pick one area to focus on and STICK to it, don't go trying to to different things you will fail and keep jumping around. After so many years of failure i needed, desperately needed some confidence so i started to build Amazon review sites, people like a trust Amazon and you can make a lot of sales, yeah only get $5 to 6% generally but it gives you a lift when you finally make a sale!

So, go over to Amazon, pick a product, niche, do some keyword reserach, I always use EXACT searches, find a keyword with decent search volume on exact match, you can make sales with just 500 searches a month and lower, especially if you have found a buyers keyword.

Check the competition, basic "keyword" less than 100,000 good I have ranked sites with over 2 million BUT the cars in that race was mini's !!... Competition is not that straight forward, you can have 2 million competing pages but if they are all mini's you can beat them. Check their page rank, domain age, how many backlinks have they goot to the page on page 1 ??

Get your site done, I only build small niche sites, some of them are 1 static page and two posts, i do use a little trick with drip feeding content though! Some get to page one a stick others don't move on.. People will say you need 500 pages, 4 million post and you must create an AUTHORITY site or it will drop like a stone, not true some of mine have been there over two years and have one page a two post.

Make sure you have good on page SEO, I use seopressor cuz i like it!.

Build some links and see what happens, easy eh... Hell No....But it works...Hardest part for me is this...

Finding a keyword (buyer) with even 500 seaches a month
Making sure competition is not to high
Getting an EMD, I use .Com, .Org, .Net and .Info and have ranked them all on page one with a little on page SEO and a varied source of backlinks.

When I have found the above I know i am good to go so I build my site with UNIQUE content and eventually after a few weeks, months sometimes the sales come in...

Then I start all over again, I build at least one site a week but only if I can match the criteria mentioned above and spending hours doing reseach you can find at least two a week....

          Phew..... Just my experience.

I dunno, I've never used Clickbank. I dont like their policies. 247 clicks isnt really much to judge something on though, however I will say this.. If your traffic is targeted enough, all it takes is ONE click to get a conversion.

As for affiliates, all it takes is 1 super-affiliate to drastically change your life. You would sh*t a brick if I showed you my current JVZoo snapshot for today & yesterday.

And it was all done by my own promotions and just ONE affiliate.

But like I said, this is a SUPER affiliate. lol this guy can press a button & crank out over 1300 in sales. Its been 2 days and I'm still speechless..

And that is just for my JVZoo stats. That doesnt include everything else that I do. I really feel like I won the lottery man. All of my hard work is just skyrocketing lately. I'm a real life rags-to-riches story.. it feels amazing. It really does.

So trust me, it can and DOES happen. Just keep working towards your goals dude.

Thanks for the encouragement man and congrats on your success!

In my situation, would you recommend me continuing to push it through affiliate networks and expanding my reach (I.e. - more networks) in order to find that 1 blockbuster affiliate?

    1) I consider the sample size good enough when I consistently make sales. I go for quality over quantity and get my traffic using free methods.

    2) I do enough research ahead of time to make sure I am only selling what the research shows people are already buying, that have enough exact monthly global searches, have some competition but not too much so that I don't have to worry about that one.

    3) I have not used Peerfly because my mentors recommended MaxBounty. However, they also recommend that you NEVER send traffic to a site you do not own. So I build lists and then promote different things to the different lists.

I have found that some times it only takes a very little bit of tweaking to get a landing page to convert better. Also, the quality of the traffic is key. If you are already getting targeted traffic looking for exactly what you are providing, the conversions should be pretty high.

I've given a lot more advice to newbies on here so go back and read some of my previous posts.

    Good luck.

    Thanks

You want traffic coming in from all different kinds of sources, not just 1 place.

Its hard to give an exact method for you to try and follow, since nothing works exactly the same for everybody. Sure, you can get software for pretty much everything these days.. But those programs can only do what YOU set them up to do. And everybody uses them for different things.

All I can say, is that you never know when things can change man. Just keep at it. Good luck!

    1. actually its hard to determine. As a beginner you should only think about withdrawing your investment. nothing else. if you have invested 100$ for a campaigning of 30 days, then you sell have to be more than 100$. that's the primary / starting level. Determining the Conversion / total Click is tough.

    2. At least run the offer for 4 weeks then easily after seeing the offer you can determine whether they are needed to visitors or not. Dude all of the products are important for the visitors but you have to tell them clearly about the product 1st.

    3. Peerfly is a good network. If you are interested in small networks then you can try CPAtank and Affiliate cash pile.

    thanks

The best thing you can do is start with squidoo and hubpages. They can not only become lead generation pages but can also make income directly. This way you won't feel like you wasted $$ because you will at least have a decent backlink to your website, and best case scenario is it brings in new leads and makes $$ as well through the lense.

I've seen webmasters go years without making $$. It takes patience, but building a great lense will help open your eyes to what a great landing page should look like, as well as writing sales copy.
