Online Bachelor's Degree in Internet Marketing

I've been out of formal schooling for some time now,
but thought it was interesting to run across this site
offering an online bachelor's degree in Internet Marketing...
Full Sail University

If I was starting my college days all over again, this
might be appealing to me... on the other hand, the
WF could probably offer its own degrees!

I thought the list of courses was interesting. I bet the Warriors could work together to build their own version of these and make a nice profit. Just about anyone of these could make a nice WSO. Just a thought. If anyone does make a WSO on these, you can send me 10% of your profits for giving you the idea.

Just wondering... what's the story with educational accreditation is the U.S.?

I know that here, with a few exceptions in a few specific industries, any qualification not accredited by the Department of Education & Sciences isn't worth the paper it's printed on. It's also illegal for any body to use the term "University" in it's name without permission from the Department.

Is it a free-for-all over the pond?

    Tommy.

I dont think that no teacher would be taken seriously if he does not have at least 1 website earning him $10.000 a month lol.

I would never attend college to learn internet marketing, I could learn even better internet marketing by reading the warrior forum

Tommy, Full Sail is a legit school. It's well known for its programs in the arts, like film and design.

I think the IM degree is intended for people who want to get a job doing it. It wouldn't make much sense taking it for yourself, vs. other courses or training that are available.

Nope Tommy it's not a FFA over here. I think schools have to have permission to use the term "University" in the title. I only found this out as the tech school I attended a couple years ago is now called DeVry University. It was a big deal at the time.

As a college student going to school to get a degree I will never use (Marketing Management w/ MBA), this is very interesting.

I am sure people could learn a lot more through the resources we already use, but it is defintiely cool to see it available.

      HILARIOUS!

We toured the campus of Full Sail a couple years ago.

      EXPENSIVE.

      Now for the sad news:

A friend of mine was recording and mixing sound for a film that had been directed by a Full Sail grad. He had his degree and everything ... and had NO freakin' clue about what was going on in the studio. As in ... NONE.

Another person I knew personally that recently graduated from Full Sail sent me a demo reel. It was extremely amateurish at best.

Met another guy that recently graduated from Full Sail. His own take on his Full Sail experience: "I wish I had just started working for a production company out of high school. I would already have a much better paying job and all that money I spent on Full Sail would have bought me a really nice house."

My teenage son is already doing commercial production work. (Started when he was 16). His friends that are in film school are telling him, "Dude ... don't bother coming up here. You're already doing stuff that we won't get in to for another semester or two."

The campus itself was AMAZING. Very nice and high tech. They had the gear, for sure. But I'm telling you, by the time we really looked it all over, it was really nothing more than a VERY expensive way to have someone walk you through the widely available books that are already published on audio and video production.

My bet is that this "Internet Marketing Degree" is similar. Go to the book store and get everything you can get your hands on. READ IT. DO it. Then read the articles on this forum and others that are similar.

You'll save yourself several months and TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS!

Frankly, from what I've seen... many of the Warriors in this forum could easily create a curriculum and charge like crazy for it.

      Hmmmm.....

Yea, it's a waste. I used to do QA Testing for EA in Orlando and I don't know how many other testers came from Full Sail.

I mean it was an entry level job you could get in a gaming company with a high school degree (sometimes I wonder if that was even required ) and these guy had the same job after paying over 20 grand.

        Kinda sad really.

trench work is better than any degree. i got into im out of desperation, and just being pissed off at the rat race. i was layed off, had unemployment for a while and decided to suck unemployment to see if i could just start making some money online. 6 years later, averaging 17,000 per month profit. i did have to get a job for a while, but made damn sure it was not a stressfull one, so i could focus on im. one day it will click, and there is no school that teaches that. you have to get mad enough, and realize that it is actually work! so much for sales copies "just 2 hours a week". maybe for temporary income!

Well i think conventional schooling cannot teach IM, or maybe they can teach, but they cannot creat really IMers lol....

Learning by Doing is always proven way to excel in anything...
so being in IM is the best and fast way to learn the IM
instead of taking classes about IM lol....

Oh yeah Warrior University is great where, you learn by reading
and doing and sharing at the same time all as A ONE TEAM!

Dang, for $53,000 we could put together a killer product, higher a kick ass copywriter, AND outsource the whole thing... and be WAY ahead of a $75k per year job.

However to have a pretty "degree" in IM would be cool...

When it comes to running a successful business nothing beats hands on experience and internet marketing is no different.

The value of any course is going to be highly dependent on the teacher and you really need to question some of the qualification criteria universities use to hire their teachers in business and marketing courses.

I've met people teaching business at university who have never run a business themselves.

                Not good.

The teachers in marketing are often as clueless when it comes to what works in the real world.

And as brilliant as the information on the Warrior Forum is you won't take ownership of it until you get off your arse and put it into action.

                Kindest regards,
                Andrew Cavanagh

Having worked in the ecommerce industry (on the merchant side), I realized how many of the corporate, retail entities are seriously getting into the IM game (called e-tailers). But their approach seems to be more "structured" and/or traditional (and with a MUCH larger budget to boot!).

So...for those who aspire to work a "JOB" in these industries, I can definitely see how formal education (combined with experience) can enhance your credentials.

                  Dana.

Man, I did a ebusiness degree at University of Queensland (top 40 uni of the world) and it was pure crap compared to what full sail offers (actually, it was just pure crap!). What you do need to look for is its accreditation and what institutions acknowledge its degrees.

                To whom?

One normally gets a degree to impress prospective employers. Who, apart from the recipient, would recognise, be impressed by, or even care about a degree in IM?

Most (virtually all) people don't even know what IM is.

In this industry you have to be on the front-lines. If a class could offer that then go for it. However, application is the most important thing...in any industry. So don't learn yesterdays knowledge by signing up for a class.

I tell people all the time, what an IMer needs to succeed is the equivalent of 19 masters degrees and 7 PHDs. And that isn't far off.
