Noob Question: Comparison of Digital Download Payment Providers

Hi All,

I am due to publish my first ebook on 20th February

I am due to publish another 370 public domain books, on a specific topic, by end of March 2009.

I need to set up the digi-download back end for these ventures.

I've been looking on the forums and I'm getting confused, as I'm not selling "affliliate products" etc, just my own, and I can't seem to find a basic comparison website, that looks into fees/features etc

I'm trying to sort out all sorts of things about my ebusiness, and I just can't get my head round which digi-download provider to use...

My requirement is:

Secure, limited download (days/instances) of digital product plus bonuses.

As much of the admin (refunds, email monitoring) outsourced as possible (either to Virtual Assistant or by application service provider).

Ability to buy multiple related books if required, then pay once, not buy one at a time.

Money to go into UK Ltd Company Account.

Reduced hassle is more important that the cheapest fees.

My hosting sites would have the links to the provider, rather than using a single page on their site, so I have full control over the sales page content.

Thanks for any advice.

    I've decided life's too short, particularly on a Friday, to be drowning in detail.

    I'll sort out a clickbank account and see how it goes #

    I can always move somewhere else if I'm not happy..

    I know you're trying to streamline things - a great idea! - but Clickbank is very limited and means you can only sell on their network and on their terms. I would want to look beyond that.

    I'm facing similar issues and I'm looking at DLguard.com

    It's recommended by a lot of warriors and I'm already pleased to find that their support is excellent.

    I am using eJunkie now and you gotta give them a thumb up for their service.

    You can create coupon codes, affiliate programs etc. within a few clicks.

    I'd strongly urge you to look at TotalBusinessCart.com. It's a UK white-label of 1ShoppingCart and they hold regular workshops in London. It can handle everything you've asked for, plus more!

    I believe they're also offering a 30-day free trial at the moment, so I'd recommend you give it a try and see if they can help.

      I'd recommend DLGuard - once set up you have total control and it's a breeze to add new products such as yours - no monthly payments either.

    I'm Sam Stephens, the owner of DLGuard.

    As Jim said, DLGuard doesn't charge monthly fees.

    You'll find with E-Junkie and 1ShoppingCart that the fees will add up real quick when you start offering a number of products for sale.

    You'll also need to deal with file size restrictions.


    DLGuard is hosted on your own website, so no ongoing fees. It also handles bonus products for you, securing the bonus product downloads as well.

    It'll also plug into Clickbank for you as well, since you've mentioned them, however Clickbank doesn't really lend itself to shopping cart situations where people want to buy more than one product in one go. You're better off looking to Paypal for that.

    eJunkie is a great way to go and is inexpensive - sounds likei t would work for you.

    If you do decide to try them Google for a coupon code - often you can get a few weeks free.

    It's always good to double check fee structures for hosted services.

    MsAngry is looking to sell 370 ebooks - if she wants to use E-Junkies file hosting service, this is $60 per month.

    It's a much smarter business move to invest in a self-hosted solution where you'll be financially better off in just over 2 months.

    Just picked up all the responses on this thanks very much for the advice

    I'm still researching and the last piece of the puzzle is about refunds..

    Clickbank seem a bit gung-ho and offer a refund straight away. Oh dear, I thought...

    That got me thinking about refunds - I don't want the admin hassle of that process...clickbank offers the (hyperactive) refund service, e-junkie doesn't offer any support like that.

    Are dealing with refunds a lot of hassle - just about to sell 1 book in a mo, 25 at the end of March...?

    Thanks for the advice, everyone. Much appreciated.

    I am piloting the first book in about a week - that's a "how-to" book - a sacrificial lamb whilst I work out how to do this stuff (my head is m-e-l-t-i-n-g ) I'm going to clickbank that one just for expediency.

    The rest are public domain works and I've outsourced the reformatting - taking 1 hour per book.... so I have a bit of breathing space, there's 25 done so far, so enough to cut my teeth on a slightly bigger venture.

    Very interested in DLGuard as owning the 'sales process' - (although it instinctively 'feels' a bit more hassle than totally outsourcing) - seems to make sense. I can give the admin/monitoring the inbox work to my virtual assistant.

    I've been a web programmer for 8 years, so techie stuff isn't a scary place, it's just glueing it all together, and thinking about IM and online sales on top of creating the actual products is quite hard work...
