How to get prevent email being marked as 'Spam'

I have a list of emails, but when I email them it gets marked in the Spam folder.

I am providing my services to them for a cheap price which can expand there business, but email providers (especial gmail) see it as spam. I sent some test emails to my other emails to see if this was true and it was.

Is there a way to help bypass the spam folders? I am not sending a scammy product to them or some CPA offer that has no real use to them. However spam filters think differently.

So any words I should cut out, is it better to email one at a time or mass email, etc.
Thanks.

Yes - good advice. I will just add, don't be tempted to try to get around this by using 'words' like:

      fr.ee
      ca_sh
      etc

      Will

    1) how did you acquire your list? if its purchased then your list is "poisoned" and every e-mail you send out from this list will further black list your account/IP/name server/domain ect ect

    2) what does a sample e-mail look like?

    3) what domain are you sending from and how is your mailing configured?

    4) have you tried an e-mail delivery service like mailchimp/sendgrid?

    5) what is your current volume of sending?

Theres lots of factors that go in to successfully delivering e-mails and without more information I can not help you. As for mass mailing this is the fastest way to ruin your list and e-mail reputation and deliverability if you do not know what you are doing. Avoid e-mail "blasts" like the plague.

Good information here. Take it on board and you will begin to see better results.

My tip to add is make sure that the people on your list really want to here from you. If you have an avid reader they will go out of their way in order to whitelist your email address to ensure they get it.

Thanks guys for your responses. I did not purchase the list, but it is not like normal email marketing where they sign up, instead I get it from my own way through Google.

I took out some popular spam filter words and did more testing and it no longer hits the spam folder.
    Finally!

whois scraping is the fastest way to end up on some SURBL or even worse in Spamhaus.

E-mail addresses on public display often get targeted by scrapers and spammed later on. Most of these addresses end up as honey pots or spam traps as they are called.

The spam filter words will mean little once you hit a spam trap, you will progressively be blocked more and more on several levels not just your domain or e-mail address.

This will affect your e-mail deliverability and your IP reputation. Changing accounts or IPs or domains is not the answer because new domains and unused IPs or not warmed up IPs or IPs with neutral reputation are all red flags for spam filters.

You are fighting an uphill battle. The scraping method would have worked years ago but today you are just investing time in a sinking ship. Just my 2cents...

Thanks for the great information! Is there a good way that you recommend to contact new potential clients by email?

Do you know if it's frowned upon to contact a business using details you located on Google Places - to offer them your service or product?

I think that is perfectly OK. I have seen at least one WSO for offliners based on Google places.

If you contact them manually its fine. If you try to automate it then you are in for a constant struggle.

Even if you contact them manually and follow CAN spam and all the best practice guidelines theres bound to be people who will complain anyway. It's too easy to just hit "Mark as Spam" and there is no such thing as a false spam report database or regulation. In time your deliverability will fall to 20-30%.

Internet marketing in general is frowned upon by the ISPs and Anti-Spam folk. They are clear with their rules quote spamhaus.org "You must have a way to track anonymous complaints" this basically means: "our system is far from perfect but this is your problem all we care about is our customers and fake ivory tower"

Even legit bulk e-mail services use "spammer tricks" such as snowshoe IP cannons to avoid "false positives" that are much more common than you would imagine.

Whitelisting your e-mail does not do much good because the whitelist services cover only 40-50% of the net. Id go as far as to claim that for most online businesses only 30-40% of all e-mail actually arrive to their customers.

I send from a 3rd world country this is also bound to carry a unique set of challenges and rules so things may not be as bad for somebody sending e-mails from the USA but they are not much better.

Did the owners of those email addresses subscribe to your list? Otherwise it's very likely that it will end up in the spam folder.

If you are using email addresses scraped from the Internet then you should never be bulk sending them as that is against the Can Spam act. Spam is known as bulk unsolicited email. If you want to send to people who have not given permission then you must do it one by one, the subject line cannot be misleading, and you must also include a way for them to opt out of receiving future emails from you.

What I do is use a real .edu or .gov email address. Yes, these can be bought. Then I personalize the email as much as possible. If you can use the persons name even better. Also buy some Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. Blast out some messages to all of the accounts you own. Then go in and whitelist your email in your accounts.
